Efficient and effective communication forms the basis of human society and even the human civilization. Without the development of an effective communication, method humanity might still be living in the jungle rather than in the civilization that exists today. I work with providing support to individuals with developmental disabilities. Developmental disabilities are conditions that result from mental and or physical impairments. These disabilities will naturally cause the individuals living with them numerous challenges in their lives, including language, mobility, and self-sustainability.
As such, in my business communications when dealing with people who have the developmental disabilities I shall rely on various types of business communications. The communication will depend on the disability that faces the client or customer with whom I am conducting business. My communication will involve verbal, non-verbal, written and electronic types of business communication. It is imperative that I recognize the developmental disability that I shall be dealing with and choose my business communication appropriately. A person afflicted with a disability affecting his hearing, but that does not affect his sight can use writing or even non-verbal cues.
Strong communication skill are essential and in some situations a prerequisite to success in the workplace. The basis of this statement is the fact that for most activities to be carried out, in the office or outside effective communication must occur. People with poor communication skills will not deliver the instructions as they ought to. Such miscommunications will result in unnecessary problems arising. Furthermore, to succeed in the workplace one must maintain cordial relationships with fellow employees as well as the employer. If one has poor communication skills, they will fail to express themselves adequately and may, therefore, miss an opportunity to move forward.
In addition, communication skills are essential in developing cordial relationships with fellow employees. Without effective communication and a good relationship with one's workmates, a job or duty cannot be carried out efficiently. Furthermore, the relationships between the individual and fellow employees are critical to any positive progress in the workplace such as promotions. Also, if a person interacts with the customers and clients a high level of communicational skill will aid them in ensuring that the client joins or the customer purchases. If an employee due to his poor communication skill makes the customers shy away, he is obviously not successful in his workplace. In summary, high communications skill are indeed necessary for success in the workplace.
