The concept of coworking was brought about by Engineer Brad Nuberg in early 2005. It can be defined as a membership-based workspace where a diverse group of freelancers, remote workers, and other professional individuals work together in a shared communal setting. A majority of these spaces consist of different people working remotely for a range of companies and projects. Coworking has become popular due to the fact that most people prefer to work in group settings as they tend to be less bored and more productive.
When choosing the type of coworking space one wants to enlist in, one has to consider the target market the establishment has focused on for the space. This is because there is a tendency for workers to work on similar ventures making it easy to identify solutions to problems since a common goal is shared. Additionally, age range and cultures really matter a lot with your working environment and they all demand prospects (Baim 77). Following this, I would choose an ideal coworkspace set within a community which is built on consistent values and philosophies that evoke my learning curiosity as well as comfort.
The location, design, and price of the space are important matters to consider when selecting a coworkspace. I try my best to avoid the hustle and bustle of a busy central business district. Therefore, it should be located in an accessible, less noisy, and secure location which would allow me to nurture my creativity. Focusing on design, the space should have ample light to prevent me from straining when working, a kitchen space to fix myself a couple of coffee, and a lounge where I can unwind after a long strenuous task. Having ergonomic chairs and desks, strong wireless internet, printer and copier access, showers, lockers, lavatories and changing rooms would also prove to be advantageous. Above all, the price should be flexible and affordable. Spaces with good packages like incentives and discounted packages would be really conducive and convenient.
Working in a coworkspace is expected be an exciting venture. It would offer me an opportunity to network and socialize with fellow coworkers thus exchange experiences aimed at enhancing my professional growth. Additionally, working with different people from various cultures would expose me to more perspectives hence improve my work relations in a culturally diverse setting. This means that I would learn how you conduct my whole demeanor when interacting with people from different walks of life.
The coworkplace environment would be an ideal working place for me as it suits the big five personality traits as discussed by Dr. D. These are extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and openness to experience. On extraversion, sometimes referred to as surgency, traits like talkativeness, energy and assertiveness are revisited. Identifying myself as an extrovert, the coworkplace environment would provide a platform to express my ideas to fellow freelancers thereby gaining meaningful feedback on my projects. This would present me with an opportunity on handling criticism better and transforming it into creativity.
Agreeableness touches on being sympathetic, kind and affectionate. On this note, these traits would assist me in fostering professional work relations with my coworkers. I tend to be likeable hence easily relate with people, making the coworkspace a perfect fit for my personality. These behaviours will assist me in having a smooth time at work hence augment my productivity.
Conscientiousness covers on the being organized, thorough and planful. I tend to like people who are well-organized and planful since they are inclined to complete the tasks they start and also follow the rules to the latter. In similar fashion, I expect to find such people in the selected coworkspace and possibly work together on particular projects. These people motivate me to put more effort into my work hence my productivity level will rise.
Emotional stability sometimes reversed and called neuroticism is another big five personality trait. It covers emotions such as being moody, anxious, and being tense. Also, it reflects the amount of energy flowing through your motivational system (Gosling 513). I consider myself to be emotionally stable hence I am stoic and unfazed by circumstances whatsoever. I rarely get difficulties at my place of work when people get angry or upset at each other. Therefore, I expect the coworkers am going to meet in the space to be cooperative and considerate.
Openness to experience, sometimes called intellect or imagination is another personality trait which I should put into consideration when am at my coworkspace. It touches on behaviors like having a wide interest on things, being imaginative, and being insightful (Gosling 514). I am an open person and always willing to try new ideas. Therefore, coworking will be a new experience that am open to as it pledges to open a world of possibilities.
