I watched an episode of the television show “FRIENDS”. This was the first time when I watched the show with the sound off and it was a good learning experience. Since it is a comedy show, it is really important for the actors to have the right body language to attract the viewers.
I watched the episode in which some friends met for dinner on a Friday night. For the first two to three minutes, I found it very difficult to understand anything since I am not used to watching television shows with sound trend off. But after the first few minutes, I could relate to the theme of the episode since some of the actors came in with some bags of food and wine and some actors, who were at home, were cooking. The expressions of the actors were clear and I could understand that they were making fun of each other, which usually happens in this television show. The body language of the actors made it easy for me to understand what was happening there.
One thing that I learned from this experience was that expressions and body language play a very important role when people are communicating with each other. It was like watching people from a distance, where you can see them but cannot hear them. In such a case, you can read their expressions and body language to understand what is happening. Similarly, while watching the show with sound trend off, I was able to understand a few things. I could not understand what the actors were talking about, on a few occasions, since those were simple statements that could not be deciphered from the expressions and body language.
After watching the show with the sound trend off, I could also understand how difficult it is for the people with hearing disability to understand what others are communicating and I thanked the almighty that I did not have any such disability.
