Savel & Foldy (2012) described how vital the role of Public Health Informatics is in the improvement public health surveillance. Upon reading the article, I was interested in pursuing a possible career tract in the public health surveillance due to its magnitude of importance in today’s health care services. Ever since, public health surveillance has benefited from the field of informatics ( Savel & Foldy, 2012). The roles that I want to take on the in the future include, is the further research on complex systems such as the models of disease transmission. Another possible job responsibility that I want to venture on includes identifying the opportunities to improve both the efficiency and effectives of the health systems with the integration of innovative data collection methods (Canada’s Health Informatics Association, 2012). I can also help in the implementation and maintenance of various systems in order to arrive with significant improvements.
The role that appeals most to me is the fact that I can contribute to changing the landscape of public health care systems through the use of information. Data are important in not just the field of health care but in everything, with the help of technology and future improvements in data collection, a lot of systems and methods will be improved. What is challenging about the role is to come up with innovation in a short span of time. Due to the constant change in today’s society, we are expected to derive methods that can keep up with the demands of the public. Also due to strains of diseases evolving, there is also a need to update systems so that they will be at par with what is happening in society.
