The scriptures lead the readers into understanding the way God makes himself known to his people. In the past God could reveal himself to his people like in the case of Adam, in (Gen. 2: 8). It also applied to Abraham and other prophets who are well known to his day. But many are the instances where he continuously reveals himself through nature and natural happenings just as Paul says in (Romans 1: 20). He therefore manifests himself in very many forms from revealing himself through a person or through his creation. He has always been in control but again remains hidden from scientific efforts of man who has for a long time tried to unravel the mystery behind his existence (Eccl. 8: 17). This is the reason why he reserves his secrecy and his secret things as stated in (Deut 28: 28). So therefore through the doctrine of revelation, his sovereignty surpasses the understanding of men. He chooses to reveal himself to those he wants.
There are acts that precede any form of revelation. This is evident through such places as Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18) or even by just speaking directly into the mind of a prophet like in the case of Jonah (Jonah 1: 1- 2, Zeph 1: 2- 12). He spoke through a storm like in the case of Job in the book of (Job 38), through dreams like in (Obadiah 1: 1), answering of prayers as he did to Habakkuk (Hab 1: 5- 11). Those outside of the revelations would just hear sounds like thunder, (1 Kings 18) yet again see for themselves God’s wonders like Pharaoh did (Ex. 7). In (Acts 9. 3- 8) it is clear that God chooses his own ways of manifestation and a good example is seen when he appeared to Saul and spoke directly to him on his way to Damascus. His ways of revealing himself were and still are way too many and he is the one who initiates the whole process when he chooses to.
God does reveal himself through very many avenues and the most prominent is through nature. In the story of creation, God gives life to everything including man (Genesis 1) and Paul in (Acts 17: 24- 26) ascertains this fact and therefore through nature, the earth and everything in it, God is seen. He sustains everything and no one is above him (Acts 14: 16; 17: 25). He is also known to be a universal God (Acts 17: 24) just as he is and is eternal (Ps. 93:2), powerful (Ps. 29: 4) and even wise (Ps. 104:24). All these show that there are many ways through which one can experience a revelation of God not necessarily waiting for acts such as those experienced by the men and women of the Old Testament.
There are several modes of revelation including the spoken word, written word and even the word being turned into flesh. While at the Garden of Eden, God spoke directly to Adam in (Genesis 3: 8). He also spoke to Abraham in (Genesis 18: 1- 15), and Moses too in (Ex. 3: 4). The written word is seen by way of writing where God spoke to the prophets and they did write and then delivered the word to his people for instance those written by God and handed over to Moses, that is the commandments, and together those written by Moses were kept at the Tabernacle(Deut 31: 11). These same writings of Moses are mentioned in several parts of the Old Testament including (Josh. 1: 7, 1 Kings 2: 3 and Mal. 4:4). The word was made flesh and can be seen through Jesus Christ as in (Heb. 1: 1- 2, Matt. 11:27 1 Pet. 1: 11, John 1: 1, 14)
