What kinds of information would you collect to address problems such as drugs, prostitution, and vandalism?
For addressing problems such as prostitution, drug use, and vandalism; it is important to find the reasons for their misdemeanours. Social problems in our society are caused by presence of problems that affect individuals in such a way that they are forced to join a life they would rather avoid. The information that will help in addressing such social problems is identifying the causes that lead to people committing to prostitution, drug use and vandalism. Identification of causes will help would help to create frameworks in the society that would address the issues and help people who are already part of the social problem and others who can become part of the social problem in the future. Information needs to be collected from the law enforcement agencies and other public records about people who have been involved in the drug business, prostitution business and vandalism.
After collecting the personal information of individuals, a survey would be done to identify the causes of social problems. The next step is preparing a list of people who have been involved in prostitution, drugs, and vandalism and asking them about their reason for falling to the dark side. The survey for information would help in understanding them main reasons that force people to join a life of prostitution, drugs or vandalism. The survey would also help in addressing these social problems and eliminating such problems to ensure that in the future other people do not follow the same path. Mainly, the survey would collect information on individual reasons that play a crucial role in forcing people to join criminal life. In any case, addressing the social problems can only be possible after identification of causes.
What kinds of responses might be considered?
Some of the responses that are expected in the information collected are related to lack of money, time pass, revenge, mistaken by law enforcement, forced, etc. Lack of money is one of the main causes of people joining prostitution or drug industry, as it provides them a source of income. Both, drug industry, and prostitution can be lucrative avenues to make money and it is easy for them to attract people who are in desperate need for money (Breslin, 2011). Time pass is a reason for people to pick up vandalism as they want to spend their time doing something cool, rather than wasting time on studies or spending time with family. It is possible that revenge can be one of the reasons for people to vandalize someone’s home to property. Many people are motivated to take revenge and use vandalism as a means to take out their frustration (NCPC, n.d.).
Mistaken by law enforcement is also another acceptable response as many times people are mistakenly caught for a crime. In case of vandalism, it is possible that the law enforcement might report an individual by mistake. Several people that are caught by law enforcement for prostitution and drugs claim that they were caught by mistake (Narconon, 2016). Another reason that is given quite often by people caught in prostitution and drugs by law enforcement agencies is being forced by another person. Many prostitutes and drug dealers claim that they never wanted to work as criminals, but they had no other choice and did so under duress. It is true that many people are unable to walk out of a life of prostitution and drugs as they are living under the burden of returning their money.
What types of assessment would you perform?
Different types of assessments that would be performed in this case would be related to understanding the different types of causes that lead people to a life of prostitution, vandalism and drugs. The information collected about the causes that are leading people to prostitution, drugs and vandalism and it is worth assessing the impact these causes have on the society and why it is necessary to overcome these causes.
Some of the causes that will be assessed are:
Social Causes
Social causes will be assessed to understand the factors that are contributing to the development of scenarios that are forcing people towards criminal behaviour. Essentially, the social problems present in the community will be analysed and it would be assessed how these social problems need to be managed to help people out of their precarious situation. Social causes play an important role in forcing people and assessment of these causes will identify the loopholes that exist in the society and need to be fixed to reduce the number of people joining drug business, prostitution or vandalism.
Financial Causes
Another important area that will be assessed in this case would be the financial causes. Every person that claims that their financial condition forced them to join prostitution, drug business or vandalism identifies a problem existent in our society. This problem will be assessed to understand the severity of the problem and find ways to overcome the problem. The financial causes are essential aspects to assess as lack of money is one of primal reasons for people being forced into prostitution, drugs and vandalism. Therefore, assessment of financial causes would help to better understand the financial problems and find solutions.
