Contraindications in Beauty Treatments.
Contraindications happen to many people who take medications. Whether it is in pill form or another form such as immunizations. It can also happen to those who are having a procedure or surgery. Contraindication is a situation that takes place simply because a procedure, surgery or drug should not be used and it can be harmful and hurt a person. There are medical conditions that prevent or restrict someone from having electrical treatments. Ten of them will be given in the following paragraphs allowing with the reasons as to why they are contraindications.
Epilepsy is a neurological disorder and similar or is an onset to siezures. Because of the frequent movements it is best not to have a person with this take electrical treatments. If a customer or client had a recent facial operation, because they may still be some swelling and the area is sensitive they should also not have the treatment. It can cause more damage or spread of bacteria. When the body cannot control the blood sugar level efficiently it has diabetes. Anyone with this disease should consult their physician and should not have the electrical treatment. The body is not making enough insulin and further damage could harm the customer. There are different forms of skin cancer and an electrical shock treatment could make it worse.
If a person has undiagnosed pain in the facial area or anywhere they should not have the electrical facial treatment. That could actually make the pain worse and create a legal issue. Also a fever is a sign that when presented the customer should not pursue the treatment. Their fever could be prolonged or their temperature could escalate. If the client has a contagious or infectious disease they should not get the treatment as it would spread from the person to the equipment and to another person. They should hold off until their body has healed. Eczema is a skin conditions with rashes and bumps present along with dry skin. Conducting the treatment can only make it worse. The skin may dry out more and the condition may get worse.
If a customer presents themselves with skin allergies or hyper-sensitive skin that is a red flag. That means that conducting the treatment could lead to a break in the skin or further the irritated area and make it worse. This is a big contraindication to the treatment. Also if the client presents themselves with watery eyes, conjunctivitis, or an eye infection it should be considered to stop the procedure. This could further damage the area and spread the infection from one person to the next if it is an eye infection.
There are reactions that the client may experience with the electrical treatment. One is heating of the muscles and body or heat sensation. The area that is getting the treatment may feel a little bit warmer than the rest of the body. Another is perspiration to that area and the skin. This is because the body is cleansing itself. Skin peeling to the face because of the dead cells may occur. Also sensitiveness to that area may be a reaction when one touches the face or that area. According to one source a hot face may be presented and that is because “a hot face may be a sign of the client’s age, and the onset of the menopause” (NVQ Beauty Therapy, 223) These are some of the reactions that clients may have to face.
There are different types of equipment used to stimulate the body’s circulatory system. One of them is the steaming facial unit. It boils water which creates moisture and “Used to warm the tissues of the face, upper chest treatment can be adjusted to suit or back.” (NVQ Beauty Therapy, 226). An audio sonic equipment uses sound waves and can give deep massage to the face. There is also a Galvanic Machine which according to research “ uses a direct constant current for both. Most skin types, except where contraface and body work” (NVQ Beauty Therapy, 227) These are just a few of the many equipment used on clients.
