Chapter 10
Leadership plays an integral role in the running of various aspects of life. Playing a leadership role comes with a myriad of responsibilities and challenges. Leadership offers an individual the opportunity to guide and offer mentorship to individuals within a team or organization. Often, the success of an organization or business is dependent on the type and caliber of leadership.
Leadership does not only lie in the ability to make appropriate decisions and seize opportunities but also in the providing the necessary platform to enable and encourage others to act. Being a better leader is a choice away from the grasp of many individuals. The very first step lies in the ability of an individual to make others find value and respect in themselves (Kouzes and Barry 283).
A leader has to be able to evaluate the performance of his or her workforce and to appreciate the effort that has been placed in achieving the various goals (Kouzes and Barry 275). Personal recognition is also crucial in allowing the team to feel motivated through appreciation. Recognition of effort serves as a reminder to the team that their input is meaningful and crucial.
The acknowledgment and celebrations should also be made part and parcel of the organizational culture. This then serves as a constant reminder of the benefits that come from hard work and meeting organizational goals. From a leadership perspective, consistent celebrations then become a form of motivation for the employees who strive to achieve more for them to have the experience of celebrations.
Chapter 11
Leadership entails a myriad of components that are synergistically incorporated to result in success. Another crucial tenet of leadership that has to be understood is that leadership does not end with the development of values, goals, and operational methodologies. Often, the difference between success and failure of a given organization lies in the capacity of leaders to get involved in the day-to-day running of their organizational operations (Kouzes and Barry 310).
Involvement by a leader is an indication of concern for the various on-going activities and thus accords the team members the motivation to show their level best. Showing concern for the activities that are carried out is also a mark of leadership and accountability. The concern and care shown by leader is a booster of motivation.
Proper leadership also entails accepting and celebrating the results that accrue from the various efforts that are placed in attaining various goals and achievements. Acknowledging the little and significant steps that are made along the journey of success and attainment of goals accords other team members and employees the confidence to strive to optimally performance. The celebration of the attained and achieved goals serves as motivation for enhanced efforts in attaining better results (Kouzes and Barry 329).
The hard work and effort that is placed in achieving success and goals of an organization are enormous. For a leader, finding a way to create fun in the attainment of the goals despite is the hard work become crucial. Integrating fun and hard work are an important aspect and tenet of leadership (Kouzes and Barry 318). It allows for a reduction of the stress that comes with the accomplishment of tasks and duties.
Chapter 12
Organizational behavior is largely dependent on leadership. The leader is entitled to defining and establishing the culture that an organization can adhere. Following this realization, a leader, therefore, has to be able to develop a core set of values that a team and organization at large can adhere to (Kouzes and Barry 333). For the successful adoption of value, however, a leader has to ensure that he or she set an example of abiding by them so as to provide a benchmark for the rest of the team.
Leadership is a role and capacity that is evident in all aspects of life. For instance, when most people are asked to identify their role models in life, often the quickest and easiest options is usually a family member that provided the needed motivation for various achievements. This is an indicator of how close leaders are to an individual.
Another crucial aspect that a person has to consider is the fact that leadership entails a myriad of factors. Self-worth and practice hold a crucial role in defining leadership. A leader has to realize the importance he or she adds to an organization or organization. However, most importantly leadership is a component of constant practice (Kouzes and Barry 340). By making decision daily and learning from the challenges and mistakes that arise from the management dynamics, a person gets to learn of how to improve their leadership capabilities.
Leaders experience a myriad of experiences in the accomplishment of their duties. It is thus important for leaders to be able to learn from their experiences, challenges and mistakes to better improve their abilities as effective leaders, reflection is thus a crucial element in leadership as it provides the opportunity for understanding
The secret to leadership lies in being able to ignite and awaken the potential in other people always. The ability to ignite leadership in others is, however, fueled by the capacity to love. The selfless love that arises from the need and desire to see the best in other plays a crucial role in determining the success to effective leadership.
