Manufacturing Strategies
Manufacturing strategies was developed in the 1940s at Harvard University. These strategies were developed in efforts to find solutions to compete evenly in the growing industrial world. Strategies had to be put to facilitate planning and analyzing the consequences that may arise out of poor planning. Strategies involved putting in place measures that would ensure that the company improves in its manufacturing capacity to beat other producers; this creates an evenly competitive strategy.
It is through a company’s manufacturing capabilities that competitive dimensions of manufacturing are looked into to achieve the best results possible. This entails cutting down on cost, improving on quality, flexibility of the manufactured products and innovativeness of the manufacturing company (Ulusoy, 2014). This factor influences the success of a manufacturing company through boosting the number of sales. Reducing the cost of production as suggested in the competing through manufacturing capabilities, leads to an increase in sales. This is because the goods become more affordable. Improving on the quality of the product being manufactured, improving on the design and providing a variety of products improves on the industrial manufacturing company’s success. This is through providing the buyers with a wide range of quality products to purchase. Motivating the employees helps in achieving the desired goals through team work. Employees’ play a major role in ensuring intended strategies are implemented.
Strategic choices in manufacturing strategy are based on internal and external constituency in the choices used in manufacturing strategies. These choices are composed of, plant and equipment, production and planning control, labor and staffing, product design and engineering, organization and management. These are the key factors considered in these strategies (Ulusoy, 2014). Outsourcing is an important factor in improving the industrial growth. Outsourcing helps in establishing a foundation for the maintenance system process by providing a systematic approach towards maintenance. Best practices are also a paradigm considered in manufacturing strategies. These practices were established to help in maintaining production. Best practices are aimed at improving on perspective. Best practices do improve on the manufacturing practices but do not guarantee success. Best practices are exercised because of pressure to help improve on the manufacturing processes.
The strategies exercised in these manufacturing practices are implemented to help in achieving the intended operational outcome. Presentations need to be put to ensure that the strategies implemented have the overall expected impact on the business performance. All the stated paradigms need a comprehensive benchmark to survey the performance. A comprehensive assessment is aimed at checking on the progress made through the implementation of these manufacturing strategies (Miltenburg, 2005). Manufacturing companies need to lay down strategies for implementation that are aimed to improve on the business practices. Each company needs to conduct a survey on the areas where it needs improvement. This lays the foundation to establish the kind of strategies that need to be implemented.
These strategies are meant to be implemented after thoroughly examining the changes that need to be made to improve on the manufacturing. They are all aimed at improving the quality of the products being manufactured and cut down cost while still maintain quality. Best practices, on the other hand need to be evaluated since they overly improve on the other two paradigms. Manufacturing practices needs to be well evaluated to achieve the best results. Through this, the success of the manufacturing industries is guaranteed.
