Doctor Martin Luther King presented the idea of interconnectedness within the first part of his letter. King was able to express such idea through more powerful and persuasive manner. The first portion of the letter shows that he clearly said that even white men were suffering from the effects of segregation even though they are already part of the dominant and powerful race. That is because; they are provided an incorrect sense of humbleness. King suggests that separation is a terrible and tragic sin, which states that a person will be forever doomed if he will not accept the connection between him and his sisters and brothers. King’s belief about interconnectedness provides a notion that it is essential to recognize the people’s sameness instead of giving more importance to differences between individuals. The major idea about King’s belief is that all of us, regardless of race and color, are connected with each other.
There are various reasons that King’s belief about interconnectedness is valid. One is that if there is an injustice against a person, then it is quite possible that it can also happen to another. In fact, I agree with his concept because the “segregation” could lead to negative effects against the people, no matter what the skin color is. Additionally, I agree with the concept based on what I can see in many communities that one single event can affect the whole community regardless of race, religion, and even socio-economic status. Thus, there is a deep ethical basis as to why King presented the idea of interconnectedness among people. On a broader aspect we can all see that all life forms in this planet are interconnected (Global Goodness, n.p.).
