National Public Policy is basically an idea created in an attempt to resolve a problem as recognized by the government. Through public policies, the government, though activities defined by the constitution, address the needs of its citizens. The policies are based on law in general, although there are people apart from law makers who have a say in public policies. In my essay I will focus on the education policy and how the process is playing out.
Education Policy
Common Core
The “Common Core State Standards Initiative” is an initiative outlining irrefutable benchmarks in Mathematics and English at different grade levels from play school to high-school. Common Core standards have created awareness from the time they were finalized within groups that dealt with various fundamentals that were part of the reform (Marshall, 1990, p. 23).
Online learning
This is a swiftly growing mode of learning that is practiced globally and has seen major improvement with advancement in technology. Classes offered in our higher learning institutions are accessible to other students across the globe. This has made learning possible to almost anyone who has the interest and the necessary tools to undertake online classes. When this initiative begun, it looked rather impossible. This is because many thought it would be hard for people to commit to the classes the same way it would be done in a conventional school environment. However, online learning has been a major success in the education sector.
Conclusion
Education systems in this country have to be adjusted and the state principle is not the solution. Things that have to be fixed are so embedded in the formation of the learning systems and the new focus on public principles is threatening to sidetrack the essential issue. Furthermore, national management of our learning systems has been on the rise as the set standard and accomplishment have continued to deteriorate.
Experts in the learning systems, Lindsey Burke and Jennifer Marshall have given reasons as to why centralizing setting of learning principles is likely to lead to the average results. If learning systems are to position our country in a viable market, innovation has to be the main factor in our education systems. This would mean all of us being ready to adapt and change at a fast pace for us to stay relevant in the international education market.
