The functional structure is one that offers a solution to the duplication of work by splitting the organization into different departments on the basis of functionality. Matrix is a structure that offers a combination of both the hierarchical system and the responsiveness amassed by putting responsibility for the execution of work at all the levels. The divisional structure is that which is formed when an organization is divided into smaller and simpler structures because of its large size. A team based structure is less hierarchical and individuals are grouped into varied groups. Lastly, a virtual network is a conglomerate of firms behaving as a single big organization using social mechanisms for control, as well as, coordination.
On a personal level, I would choose a team based structure as a possible one to work in. This is because of the broad availability of synergistic efforts, as well as, complementary skills that all assists towards the achievement of a primary goal. (Taylor, 1998, p. 198)
Walmart's organizational structure can be described as hierarchical-functional thus asserting that it holds two features i.e. hierarchy and functional. Google, on the other hand, uses a matrix type of structure making it harbor thus a large extent of flatness.
The control processes in the hierarchical functional structure encompass a set of governing devices that would ensure that the decision-making abilities are divided. For a matrix organizational structure, the control is always placed on strangers who notably would not have any direct impact on the supervision of the business. (Markgraf, 2016, p. 253)
The quality management process found in the matrix organizational structure encompasses reporting to team managers who consequently report to the line managers in the systems. For the hierarchical functional system, the human-built concept is organized into hierarchical perspectives.
