An effective essay requires that the writer first reads and understands the instructions, then begin the writing process by writing an outline of the essay. Ensuring that the outline touches all the aspects required according to instructions, he/she should write the essay by elaborating each of the points in the outline.
The language of the essay should be clear, simple and concise language without grammar errors and spelling mistakes. When the essay is complete, the writer should read the questions again and read the essay to ensure that it addresses every point. Lastly the writer should have someone to edit and proofread the essay before submitting it.
Unlike inventing the wheel, writing is an innovative process, which involves learning from previous writings. There is a lot to learn from other writers than any instruction book could offer. Reading can be pure joy if one reads anything that captures his/her imagination; reading things that compel him or her to read more stories; and materials that build new worlds. Apart from reading for pleasure, a good writer reads with an eye for writing (Barnet, Sylvan, William, and William, 27). The lessons gained from reading may be of help when writing. Writing is the combination of what the writer has learned in his/her unique way.
Reading exposes writers to other genres, style, voices and forms of writing. Importantly it allows writers to improve their writing skills. Reading advances the palate for all tricks which other writers have invented over the years. Close reading is essential when interpreting literature. Close reading involves developing a deep understanding and precise interpretation of literary passage that is based on the words themselves. It also embraces large themes and ideas that are evoked by the passage itself.
