Productive role in a society is providing services or making things in a society that can be exchanged inform of money. Men and women are involved in the reproductive role though the types of work they do differ due to their gender roles. The reproductive role includes the work of women to take care for the family and households. It also includes the biological work force by women of bearing and rearing children in a society. In most cases, the gender roles are influenced by the following, the class, and religion, and race, geographical area, political and economic environment of a certain society (Martin, 3).
In tradition, the social order was divided by sexes; males and females whom participated in the productive and reproductive activities of the societies. There is a relationship between education systems the productive and reproductive roles in a society (Martin, 18). The history has been seen to be the record of public and political aspects of people in the past. In the records of productive processes of a society; women have scarcely mentioned in the trend of history. Women experiences and lives have been excluded because they are seen that their role in the society was only reproduction. Females in the traditional had been limited to the fine arts.
Literacy has affected the feeling or emotion of people in the world. Literacy is supposed to be incorporated in the knowledge of a society development. Martin analyzes the work of feminists and shows that emotional and feeling development had been assigned to the private domain and reproductive roles in a society (Martin, 56). He therefore tries to explain the concern of education that seeks to prepare the life of students and how they will work in the public. It is clear that education has separated the traditional cognitive and effect even though it is hard to separate the intellectual growth, social status emotions of people in a society.
Education is also conceived as a part of productive role in a society (Ball 11). Both men and women should get education in order to improve their standards of living. The reproductive process also requires skills, knowledge and traits that are learned by both men and women. There is a need to ensure that there is a conception that assigns males and females their roles in the society. According to Martin, there is curriculum in education that has a hidden message on productive and reproductive role of peoples in the societies. These roles should always be done by men and women; the only thing a woman can do alone is bearing a child. When it comes to households and taking care for the family the work can be done by both parties.
Additionally, sex is an inborn factor that should not make a man and female to have a separable or unequal role in the society (Ball 13). The society suffers when an ideal educated person is an able to give reproductive role. Thus Roland martin used education in order to bring and show out the different between productive and reproductive role in a society.
