Introduction
Drones refer to the remote-controlled aircrafts used in carrying missiles or bombs in order to attack the terrorists and facilitate the security of the U.S. The drones are used by the U.S to kill the terror suspects in Pakistan and the Middle East countries like Yemen, Afghanistan and Somalia. The use of drones started after the 11th September 2001 attack on the World Trade Centre in the U.S. The U.S claims the use of drones while, on the other hand, some proponents argues that the use of drones makes the situation very dangerous.
One of the advantages of the drones is that they help in to decimate the networks of the terrorists across the world. The use of drones helped in killing many militants in Somalia, Yemen, Afghanistan and Pakistan. The drones also helped in the killing of the Al-Qaida trainers, bombers and commanders as well as eliminating the detectives at the battle fields. The use of drones is, therefore, supported in the U.S in order to disrupt the plans to target the transits systems of the U.S and the international aviation.
The use of drones is also supported because they help in reducing the number of civilians who are killed unintentionally in the times of war. Drones are most appropriate weapons in reducing the number of civilians killed unintentionally as compared to bombs and mine mortars. The unintended damage caused by the drones in relation to property and loss of lives is reduced greatly to low levels (Aaronson 16). The statistics show that the number of unintended deaths caused by drones is lower compared to the damages caused in the world war.
The use of drones also helps in enhancing the security of the military of the U.S. The drones are controlled and regulated by the military while at safe locations through the use of remote controls. This helps to minimize the risks of injury and loss of lives of the military personnel. This will also help the US military personnel to avoid going to the environments that are very harsh for survival.
The use of drones is also economical compared to the heavy investment in combating and manning the terrorist activities on the ground. This will, therefore, facilitate the smooth flow of military activities at relatively low costs. This helps in reduction of the security costs.
The use of drone strikes by the countries for self-defense makes it a justified way to approach the way. The legal provisions by the international law prove the use of drones to be effective. Most of the States accepts the use of drone strikes within their territories, thereby, the use of guns is justified by the international laws. The use of drone strikes is provided under international laws so as to facilitate the self-defense in the cases of attacks.
The use of drones in curbing terrorist threats plays an important role in limiting the scale and scope of operation. This helps in using little resources by attacking the identified terrorists. This helps in ensuring that many aspects of conflicts with the innocent members of the terrorist country or nation are minimized.
Most proponents also argues against the use of Drone Strikes in the attacks. The proponents claim that the use of drone strikes creates many cases of terrorists and illegal groups due to the effects of the injuries on their relatives and friends. The victims of the attacks by thrones are, therefore, motivated to act against the U.S. There is a tendency of terrorists to rise to the very high levels.
Drone strikes are disadvantageous in the sense that they involves the targets of individuals who may not be enemy or terrorists combatants. This case, therefore may lead to the death of innocent people. This makes the use of drone strikes not effective in achieving its goals and objectives. There are aspects of uncertainty of the people who are killed by the poor targets of the CIA as they look for terrorists (Benjamin 24).
The use of drones also leads to the death of civilians in large numbers. The numbers of civilians killed in Yemen, Pakistan and Afghanistan, was very high leading making drones a menace and a threat to the lives of civilians. This leads to trauma since the civilians will be very worried of their lives.
It also argued that the targets or terrorists killed may not be the very potential targets or combats of security threats. This will, therefore, make it not very possible in attaining the target of eradicating the causes of tourism in the whole globe.
The use of drone strikes is argued against because it involves violating international humanitarian laws. Drones lead to the death of suspected individuals without confirmation of the actual threats attached to such individuals (Benjamin 22). It is, therefore, a violation of humanitarian laws to kill an individual just on the basis of being a suspect.
The use of drones in the wars is very secretive, and it becomes very difficult for the citizens to play the role of holding leaders accountable for various wars. The U.S. This also intrudes the sovereignty of other countries leads to conflicts between the fighting countries.
In conclusion, drones play an important role in facilitating military activities as well as boosting the safety of the military personnel. Drone strikes, on the other hand, are disadvantageous because they may not help in eliminating terrorism as targeted. Drones fail in attaining their targets due to the high number of deaths of the civilians during the attacks.
