Thesis: There is a strong focus on women as sexual objects instead of women. This has affected the society in various negative ways.
Credibility Statement: I have been worried by the huge trend of sexploitation in the media and decided to inform others of my findings.
I have widely researched the topic in books and the internet.
1. Introduction
Attention getter: There is a trend that is developing in the entertainment media currently. This is the objectification of women in the social order. There is a strong focus on women being sexual objects, especially for music, videos and television. This is harmful to the society because the media is creating social stereotypes for men and females that can result in unwholesome social and corporal practices. Sexploitation is widespread since the media utilizes sexual content concerning women making more viewers to go along with them. The media is in a position to shape the culture sense of sex, romance or even dating and decide what is ultimate in the society. The sexual attitudes of the society are then shaped, and they then have impacts that can affect all the various populations in the community.
The topic will generate some critical views on how the society is affected by sexploitation in ways that they may not be aware.
2. Body:
a) The first effect of sexploitation is the development of women seeing their bodies as not their personal self but rather as sexual objects. Having this thought then creates other problems in women. They develop depression, low self-esteem, and eating disorders as well. These issues are directly connected to the sexualized of images in the media entertainment (Barber, 2011).
b) There is also the creation of women objects as sexual desires rather than as people by the society. The media is not selling the material and the messages, but they are selling sex to the viewers (Alexandre, 2014).
c) The creation of stereotypes in the society is enhanced by the images. The messages continue to recur, and they are sticking to time on people when they view them. The stereotypes in the society have made them focus on the tolerant sexual attitudes. It has also shown that women are objects of the desires of men (Barber, 2011).
d) The media content further affects adolescents. This is when they are in the period of development of their gender roles, sexual attitudes, and the sexual behaviors are also shaped. Their cognitive skills allow them to analyze the messages in a critical way and make decisions about future outcomes that are usually not fully developed (Berberick, 2010).
3. Conclusion
Sexploitation has been seen to have a negative to the women by interfering with their self-esteem and even creating the feeling of depression. The depiction of women has further led to the development of their image in men as only sex objects. The young in the society have also been affected by the exploitation of women bodies in the media. This is by generating negative thoughts in them about women when they view the movie in which females are not well dressed.
The firm focus on the women as sexual objects has therefore been widely seen to affect the society in the negative ways that have been highlighted.
This information will then assist us to oppose portraying women in a negative manner in the media channels. It will raise the necessary calls for action towards the rights of women.
Based on the discussion, it is evident that women’s rights are being violated. They are being looked down upon in comparison to the male counterparts. There is the need to come up with initiatives to curb the discrimination on women which is so obvious based on the issue of sexploitation. Stereotyping has also been created in the society due to the aspect of sexploitation.
Part Two
The visuals to be used in the presentation are images of women that depict exploitation of their bodies. This will include images picked from magazines or even movies. There will also be brief videos on the same to assist more with the discussion at hand. There will also be the incorporation of short videos and images in the form of a power point presentation. The power point will be an effective tool to use in the entire presentation. The images will be adjusted and appear in colored form to allow for easy visibility by the audience.
The audience will consist of middle-aged individuals with a majority being women since the topic is widely about them. There will also be the adolescent group in the public to enable them to get a clear picture of how the exploitation of women’s bodies affects them in ways that they may not understand. The level of concentration in the adults differs from that of the adolescents. The young group will seem to be bored if the presentation is full of wordings only and no images.
Different cultures have different expectations from the topic of the presentation. For instance, in business presentations, the long-term orientated cultures may be thrilled about future projections and figures while others would rather learn more from the experience and accomplishments of the presenter (Kwintessential, 2016). Therefore, in this presentation, there may be cultures that will not view the images since they may refer to them as ‘inappropriate’ while others would not mind. It is significant to ask whether the culture being targeted will value visual presentations or accurate information in the form of words or theory.
The ethical considerations to put in mind are aspects of respect for the audience. Before showing the visuals, it is essential that they are warned of their content that may not be pleasant to some of them. It is also necessary to use a language that is understood by all to eliminate any form of discrimination (Partington, 2015).
Adopting a serious tone in the presentation will raise the notion of the criticality of the matter at hand. It will also initiate action in the women present to fight the issue which is portraying them in a bad way and further affecting them personally. However, being too serious can also create boredom in the audience. Therefore, using a humorous tone will depict a different picture in the public and given them more to think about. It will also allow them a minute or two to discuss the issue among them and enlighten one another on a few missed points of the discussion.
