The Florida department of state is headed by the secretary of the State of Florida. Having been formed in the year 1838, the office has since greatly expanded to include several functions such as being the custodian of historical resources, overseeing elections, ensuring equality and integrity are upheld, maintaining the library and information services and also overseeing cultural affairs. According to the Florida Department of State Division of Cultural Affairs (2014), the main objective of establishing the office is ensuring Floridians have a high quality of life and that the rich cultural heritage is maintained. Democracy is upheld through fair elections. It is in line with these objectives that the department has established several strategies.
One of the strategies that should be retained by the department is the division of cultural affairs strategic plan for 2015 to 2020. The strategy focuses on marketing and communication, and delves into the ideas of supporting and molding the state’s artists into being effective leaders in the society. In order to achieve this strategy, there is a need to have adequate funding and capital to support the artists’ activities and also to hold cultural functions in the state. There is also a need for advanced technology to ensure the artists’ works are effectively conserved.
Such a strategy by the division of cultural affairs can be retained because due to clarity it is easy to implement and have it effectively running. Strategies that clearly outline the action plan systematically and are well communicated to the intended audience are most likely to succeed and thrive over the years.
