Introduction
The Gallup StrengthFinder assessment helps people to discover and understand their strengths. The assessment identifies the individual’s top five strengths and provides a description of how these strengths when combined are beneficial to the individual’s personal life and career. The StrengthFinder is useful for people who want to know, understand, and dominant their talents and use them to increase their performance and excel in their careers.
Survey Results
The results from my StrengthsFinder assessment identified my top themes which were: restorative, harmony, adaptability, relator and empathy. The Restorative theme means that I am able to figure out problems and find ways to resolve them (StrengthsFinder Insight Report). Being talented in the Harmony theme means that I prefer to reach agreements with those that I’m working with and dislike conflict; according to the assessment, I look for “consensus” (StrengthsFinder Insight Report). The Adaptability theme indicates that I am able to “go with the flow” and prefer to take things as they come one day at a time (StrengthsFinder Insight Report). People talented in the Relator theme find satisfaction in working with others to achieve goals, and enjoy relationships with others (StrengthsFinder Insight Report). Lastly, I am talented in the Empathy theme which means that I am able to place myself in other peoples’ situations and understand their feelings (StrengthsFinder Insight Report).
A time where I demonstrated my Harmony and Restorative strengths was during a group project in which two of my group members were arguing about how the work would be allocated to each member. One of them believed that it should be equally divided and among the group and the other group member felt that it should be divided based on the strengths of each member; however, this method would mean that one member would have a heavier workload than the other members. I didn’t mind either method but I wanted everyone to cooperate. I presented the idea to divide the work based on strengths and then agree to aid the group member with the largest workload in order to be fair. The group members eventually agreed and we were able to effectively complete the project without any disagreement afterwards.
Future Career
My strengths will help me excel in my future career in a variety of ways because I am well-rounded. According to the assessment, I am very adaptable and comfortable with changes, surprises and unexpected problems (StrengthsFinder Insight Report). In the business environment this is key as technology and markets are constantly changing and the ability to adapt is key to success. I am also driven by meeting expectations and achieving goals that have been set by others and myself (StrengthsFinder Insight Report). I am able to accomplish these goals as well. However, if I do come up short I immediately assess the reasons that led to my failure and actively work to fix them (StrengthsFinder Insight Report). An important attribute of mine is that I am constantly searching for knowledge and ways to improve myself. This self-improvement occurs within the workplace, community, and/or at school (StrengthsFinder Insight Report). I am never satisfied and always striving to achieve more; a characteristic that will allow me to persevere through obstacles in my career field.
Personal Life
My strengths will help me in my personal life to endure hardships and grow through failures and mistakes. I am always searching for opportunities to improve myself and any weak areas in my life (StrengthsFinder Insight Report). According to the assessment, I devote my, “energy intelligence, and time to fixing things about [myself] and concentrate on acquiring [new] knowledge and skills” (StrengthsFinder Insight Report). This never ending quest of self-improvement will enable me to grow and succeed at anything that I focus on.
