Some say that success is a final goal, I personally disagree with it. Ben Sweetland said “success is a journey, not a destination” and he’s right, it’s a motion. Sometimes you don’t get what you expected but not the achievement of your goal is the aim, but your effort, your desire towards your expectations . You can’t imagine success without ups and downs and Winston Churchill once said “ success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm”. A successful person is the one who has strong will, who works hard, who believes in himself. The latest is one of the most important in the “formula for success”. Low self-esteem sometimes is the barrier for success. You won’t meet a successful person who says he has never believed in himself moreover he’d rather say all the others haven’t. All the world can be against you, but you mustn’t give up, even if you fail you have to get up and work harder - it’s the key for success. Vince Lombardi said about successful person “ the difference between a successful person and others is not the lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will”.
I personally agree with all the quotes referred above, my own definition of success is following: success is a never ending process of person’s self-fulfillment. I think that nowadays people confuse the word success with the word dream. No one can deny that every person has a dream in his life. A dream is a goal, those words are synonyms. Once your dreams come true, then there are new dreams to achieve. Many famous actors, musicians, politics say that they’ve dreamt of their professions since childhood. Success is not the realization of their dreams but the process. By the way, not all of them are successful for they achieved their goals, their dreams came true and they stopped. I like the quote of Lewis Caroll “It takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!”. This quote shows that once you achieved your goals you mustn’t stop. It proves that you can work even harder then you did before.
There are many goals I want to achieve in life. First of all and maybe the main is making a carrier. Nowadays a career is practically the main goal for everyone. The reason for that is money. Of course, one cannot imagine his “happy life” without money and career helps to earn it. Successful career allows to earn even more money. Some can judge me for materialism but my dream and my goal is to live in prosperity. The second my goal is ,of course, making a family. Maybe it’s wrong to call it the goal, but still you have to put effort in order to get it, so for me it is a goal. As for my short term goals, the main goal for me now is to complete the current essay and get an “A”.
Every goal has barriers to it’s achieving. The main barriers for my long term goals are lack of proper knowledge and skills, restlessness during the learning process, lack of free time in order to prepare for my classes, a lot of useless information which I get every day from different sources, a lot of entertainments which also prevent to concentrate on my goals. As for the short term goal, the barriers for it are lack of free time, lack of ideas and critical thinking.
Every goal has a strategy for it’s implementation. If you have a strategy then you’ve made a half way to achieve your goals. About this Confucius said “success depends on previous preparation, and without such preparation there is sure to be a failure”. As I said before success is a process, but each process has it’s stages. For my long term goal - making a career , there are 3 stages. Stage 1 – getting good education which depends in my ability to learn, on my perseverance and hard-working. Sometimes getting even the best education doesn’t mean you can get a position at the company you want to work with. And it goes stage 2 – implementation of knowledge you’ve got during your education to get desired position. But once you’ve got the position at the company – there it comes stage 3 – hard work and it’s a never ending process. As for the goals for the nearest future, the main goal is to get an “A” for the current essay. The achievement of that goal also has it’s stages. Stage 1 is to make a plan of the essay , stage 2 to think over each paragraph , find necessary information or quotes, stage 3 - writing , stage 4 – don’t miss the deadline.
In my life there were goals I wanted to achieve. I remember my feelings once I achieved them – I was happy for some time, but then happiness always was replaced by sadness. Sadness is the result of not seeing your future. The future you dreamt of is the reality now. Lack of future is horrifying, that’s why we chose new goals in order to see it.
