As a consumer of information, I quite well understand the fundamentals of information and the various media through which it is passed along. For this reason, I am conversant with technologically simplified ways of passing information to the next person while making use of the simplest ways. As De Certueau describes, consumers tactically use texts and artifacts in their surroundings. It is from this notion that I came up with my project. People have a tendency of over thinking when it comes to relaying information especially in a setup like a school or learning institution for that matter.
I have come up with a project where students will be able to write, edit, perform and create a seven-minute news bulletin on a daily basis through iPads. This can also be advanced to include school broadcasts, lunch menu, school’s daily prayer and pledge. In addition to that, this simple system may also be used ingeniously to inform the fraternity on sports, memos, school class and examination timetables and weather amongst others. This project does not involve so much apart from internet connection that has literally become part and parcel of daily life, both in school and at home.
Just to highlight on a few advantages that come along with this project; students will be updated remotely and without the use of school resources like computers, magazines and newsletters. Subsequently, this project takes advantage of students’ obsession with iPads by making the time they spend on these gadgets more profitable and productive. For this reason, students will have a close and cheap access to school information through this project. As if that is not enough, they will develop a meaningful use of their iPads.
