This video is essentially about how ordinary people see valuable business opportunities in ordinary things, and actually go ahead to capitalize on them. To this end, the video explores various individuals and groups of individuals who have made millions of dollars from scratch (TerraCycle, Honest Tea, Vineyard Vines and Top Pot Doughnuts). The stories are both inspiring and eye-opening. More interesting is the story of TerraCycle, which tells of guys who are converting garbage into millions of dollars. TerraCycle, as the name suggests, recycles waste plastic bottles and uses them to package ‘plant food’ which is the proprietors sell. It is therefore a double-gain kind of a business, because it helps clean the environment while making the proprietors money (not to mention the employment it affords other people). It can be argued that the video is about making money through ordinary opportunities and conserving our environment.
Watching this video, I could not resist marveling at how people can actually make good money by taking initiatives to convert ordinary opportunities to multi-million dollar businesses. From the guys who started with neckties and went on to venture into other types of clothing, to the TerraCycle guys and others, it would appear that we are all surrounded by opportunities. I think that the organization of this video, including the narration, plays a key role in passing the message. I must confess that of all the episodes in the video, TerraCycle was my favorite, primarily because it entails conserving the environment. Effectively, I think that besides being an eye opener for people on business opportunities, the video is powerfully telling the viewer that one can make money keeping the environment clean as do the TerraCycle proprietors.
