On the other hand, the saint lives a life entirely guided by faith. The saint focuses on religious virtuous and acts in a way that conforms to religious perspectives only. In this regard, the saint connects with other through love and kindness. It follows that outward gains of a person are not of greater significant than the inner person. The two approaches have both differences and commonalities.
The differences mainly arise in the suggested ways of living. In this respect, the hero pursues self-interest and more than often sacrifices it for the benefit of others. It follows that the hero is both selfless and selfish. For example, a security officer may join the forces for self-esteem or earn a legitimate living. However, in the course of duty, security personnel tend to put their lives in danger to serve others. For example, although it is the duty of the police to maintain law and order, at times, they go beyond that to save lives. For example, a single police officer facing five armed thugs when the officer had a chance to withdrawal and to call backup that may delay leading more harm on the victims. Whether the police wanted praise or promotion (self-gains), in the process the officer saves a life (selflessness).
On the other hand, the saint focuses on the righteousness that would guarantee life after death. The ideology on saints suggests people have a purpose on earth and fulfilling it would earn them live after death. For example, one may devote one's time to care for the sick and destitute without gaining anything like fame or materially. Therefore, the saints would forego worldly pleasures.
Both talk about how one ought to live. They are also ideal in nature and tend to converge they explain the motives for actions. By their nature, one does not need to choose one over the other. A saint would act in a manner that promotes the welfare of the people. The person would show unconditional love and kindness to both good and bad people. The same thing is what a hero would do but for a different reason.
For instance, if a saint sees a criminal attacking a person, the saint would want to save the innocent person and give the criminal a chance to change. Religious laws require that one should not judge others. However, a hero would have to kill the offender to save the life of the person. The Hero does not worry about the moral consequences of killing an evil person, but the praise or self-satisfaction associated with the act. Whichever way, the results are fundamentally the same. Besides, the two approaches have a positive aspect that one can borrow and make a hybrid approach to living. A saint may become a hero because of the unending devotion, and the hero may have characters of a saint that guide in making decisions. Therefore, one does not need to make a choice between the two.
