Introduction
Psychotherapy denotes a treatment technique combined with other forms of medications to treat and elevate mental illness. It supports patients with a mental disorder to comprehend behaviors, emotions, or ideas that can be because of their condition. Equally, it aids individuals to regain control and the techniques to manage their status. Bestowing to Sreevani (2008), there are several models that could be adopted in therapy and they depend on the therapist, style, or personality of the patient. These models include cognitive therapy, behavioral therapy, supportive psychotherapy and interpersonal therapy (Sreevani, 2008).
Behavioral therapy is designed to benefit a patient to unlearn maladaptive behaviors and alternatively learn adaptive behaviors. The model is based on the notion that faulty learning leads to abnormal behaviors. Supportive psychotherapy, distinct behavioral therapy, is a commonly used technique that involves encouraging patients to accept their feelings while the therapists afford solutions to the problems. Cognitive therapy on the other hand is techniques related to behavioral therapy. Nevertheless, it used to identify distortion in thinking and it supports to understand how theses distortions can crop up problems in their lives. Interpersonal therapy was initiated as a short psychological treatment for depression that contributed to improving the quality of a depressed patient's relationships. In this model, the therapist is faced with a task to ensure an improved interpersonal relationship by the patient and on how they are to deal with social isolation (Margolies, 2013).
