All the actions that go against the social norms can be said to be deviance. A norm refers to the set of rules and anticipations by which a certain group Particular society that. The sociologist in their classification has cited that any feeling or thought they judge, as a violation of a certain group is paramount to deviance. Deviance is relative to the time and place of occurrence (Clark, 2005). This essay intends to examine the different ways in which deviance has been used.
What are the different levels of deviance?
The three levels of deviance include Mertons, Anomie or Role Strain model, symbolism interactionism and Conflict theory and gender
For the case of the Mertons, Anomie or Role Strain model, it is characterized by the innovator, ritualist, and retreatist and rebels whose aims is to achieve deviant goals (Clark,2005).
For the case of symbolism interactionism model consists of the primary deviants who commit some form of deviance, in addition, this group consists of the primary deviants who join and become full time deviants (Clark,2005).
For the case of conflict theory deviance happens as the natural result of the conflicting values of a capitalist society. This kind of deviance generates integral deviance, which is unpoliced. In addition, this type of deviance also included deviance of the marginalized groups. This one is policed and even the media covers events that make up this deviance (Hobbs, 2001).
In primary
I believe when I was in primary I was defiant because I used to violate the simple rules that were supposed to guide me while I was in school. I used to violate rules that guided pupils’ conduct in class and outside class (Hobbs, 2001).
