Tourism sector is the backbone of many economies all over the world. Knowing how imperative this may seem, few individuals would dare question how robust and volatile the travel and tourism industries can be. It is worth noting that tourism goes way beyond mere leisure travels but also entails other groups of high profile individuals engaged in businesses.
As a matter of fact, the tourism sector is a highly taxed industry. As such, few individuals who are not in the business realize how much of a loss this is to the industry. The percentage of taxes that are paid on an airline ticker alone is demoralizing. If that is not enough, the amounts of taxes levied on hotel rooms, rental cars among other tourist destination facilities are alarming. It is no doubt that close to 40% of the total costs of commodities come from add-on levies. When governments attest to the fact that they must offer additional services of protection to tourists, they on several occasions fail to consider the fact that these tourists add significant amounts of money to the local economy not only via taxes but also through purchases.
The global standardization of costs on commodities has significantly produced less locales in terms of uniqueness. The globalized market entails same products that are available year in year out. Moreover, both tourism and travel industries are known to highly depend on the international costs f fuels which by extension, is remarkably influenced by inflation trends. The rise of fuel in recent years has had major impacts on the entire travel and tourism industry. Consequently, many travelers must adjust to these dynamics if they wish to travel and visit as many tourist destinations as possible is to be kept alive.
Security is also a major threat and a challenge to the travel and tourism sector. The tourism industry, ought to have received a huge wake-up call as a result of the 911 incident in the world trade Centre. Safety is also another challenge that goes hand in hand with the security concerns.
According to Dr. Chib on tourism measurement, the international arrivals had witnessed a growth of 7% in 2010 and this was arrived at by noting the trends of tourists who visited and spent their time in hotels they booked. The standard methodological approach of establishing how many visitors went to a country were mainly drawn from the records as noted by the hotel owners. In addition, there is a commendable job done by the UNWTO tourism in so far as development of projects in a bid to make a difference is concerned. Through it, many lives have been transformed as tourism ensures that there are plenty of jobs available.
In conclusion, countries all over the world should unite and make a formidable force through strengthening the WTO that has since been characterized by the divisions and warring pacts splitting both countries.
