The debate on abortion seems to be an ongoing issue among pro-life and pro-choice groups. The United States has seen tremendous vocalization from both sides creating a challenging and controversial consideration for law makers. One of the reasons that this type of dilemma exists is because there are a multitude of belief systems in America that promises to honor all beliefs as a natural human right. The problem with abortion is that, it is the beginning states of what will become a human being, and to terminate the “thing” while it is in its earliest stages of development has seemed horrible to the pro-life groups. On the flip, if a young girl were to be raped and end up pregnant, then why should she be obligated to have a child she would be forced to raise who would be a constant reminder of the horrible incident. This might be one of the arguments pro-choice groups would present. The abortion topic is definitely one that stirs up a lot of emotions on both sides, and is one of the more serious issues dividing the nation.
With a large diversity of religious, ethnic, and cultural groups that live in the U.S. there are a multitude of beliefs that also exist . In addition to the religious freedom that citizens have, there is also the freedom to be agnostic or atheist. Each of these groups has with them their beliefs and values, all of which may differ from one another. What is acceptable and unacceptable is diverse, and that is just what part of being an American is about. It is a nation with a democracy that wants to empower the people through choice and freedom, so it would be expected that the government would have to allow abortion as an option despite beliefs and values. After all for those who are against it, have the absolute freedom to have as many babies as they prefer.
There is an extreme dichotomization that exists in the debate about abortion, which seems to aggravate the issue. Sure, there should be guidelines on certain aspects of abortion, but it should remain legal for the various reasons that exist. By allowing people who would not be affected by abortion, not against themselves or any forced manner, what difference does it make to them to allow women who cannot have the child, whatever the reason may be, to terminate the pregnancy. It seems if a middle ground were reached that both groups could accept, then a realistic workable situation could arise which is what is so desperately needed in areas like abortion. For example, “many states allow abortion in cases of rape, incest, or danger to the life or health of the pregnant woman” (Garlikov n.d.)
Even from the view of the unborn child, what type of life will the child live if he or she were born to a mother and father who were not yet ready or did not want the child for whatever reason and were forced to keep it. The amount of child abuse and neglect would result by forcing people to have children because abortion is made out to be a horrible murder of a fetus. Some balance and synchronicity are a must for this subject, which is much too significant not to discuss. A bit more uniformity in the whole context of the issue from the mother, the infant, to society, all perspectives must find a realistic agreement to bring the best option available that all could feel united in. In conclusion, “providing women with affordable contraception and access to safe, legal abortion is absolutely an economic concern — and the economy, as a whole, benefits when our leaders understand that” (Pearson 2015).
