In spite of its relative small size, there are a lot of occurrences that take place inside Bermuda as revealed by some news features form the country.
For instance, in an article with a headline “Bermuda: Casinos arrive- but not for islanders” on the BBC website, it emerges that gambling is illegal in Bermuda. The news feature seems to insinuate that this is likely to remain so for quite some because juts recently, the citizens of Bermuda rejected a proposal to legalize gambling in the country in spite of the country being home to a lot of tourist casinos. In fact only ships anchored at the docks are allowed to conduct gambling activities.
In another news article from the New York Times website titled "Bermuda Triangle Demystified”, one of the most famous aspects of Bermuda, namely the Bermuda triangle is explored. Here, the author looks at some of the mysterious happenings of the Bermuda triangle including plane and ship disappearances. These disappearances have been attributed to a myriad of things including sorcery and alien abduction most of which are unproven. The author at the end of the news feature states that the mystery surrounding the triangle is not something that will end soon.
In regards to finance, a news article titled “Bermuda to become a Leading Center for Islamic Finance” looks at the country’s efforts in become a leading destination of Islamic finance investments. In fact, Bermuda has already signed treaties with Islamic states like Qatar and Bahrain that will see the country become a Sharia compliant financial hub. Since Islamic finance is among the financial sectors that are advancing very fats in the world, Bermuda hopes to capitalize on this aspect to boost its economic growth.
Another news feature “Tropical Storm Gabrielle reforms, threatens Bermuda” about Bermuda relates to the country’s susceptibility to hurricanes and tropical storms. The country has been subject to several devastating tropical storms and this has resulted to a lot of loss of life, an example being the Storm Gabrielle.
