Background Information
According to ANAD of the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, anorexia is the top three long term disorder of teenagers (“Anorexia Facts,” n.d.)
Among women ages 15-24, anorexia is the most common cause of death (“Anorexia Facts,” n.d.)
Definition
Anorexia nervosa is a condition in which a person deny the feelings of hunger, and they starve themselves because they believe that eating will cause them to get fat even if they are already below their ideal weight (Graves, 2000).
Thesis: Anorexia nervosa is a serious issue that affects our society; therefore, it is imperative to understand its causes, symptoms, effects, and available treatments in order to save the lives of those who are afflicted with this disorder.
