Working as an Advance Practice Nurse requires mastery and competencies in nursing. This course allows for APN students to acquire those competencies. Among the skills that can be learned through this is working on an effective nursing care plan specific to the patient's exact needs. During the course, different cases had been presented allowing the students to appreciate every case that come into the hospital. The nursing care plan is necessary be it helps the patient manage their condition according to a specific design.
The nursing care plan communicates the treatment, the procedure, as well as the necessary modification to the patient’s present behavior and lifestyle which could affect the process of recovery or wellness . The NCP should meet the required DSM-9 classification of the patient’s medical condition. The diagnosis should fit perfection into the classification to ensure that the nursing interventions that will be formulated is according to what the patient needs. A nursing intervention presents the appropriated activities and tasks that the patient needs to comply in order to assume wellness . This will highlight the treatment, the regimen, and recommendations on how the patient can manage the existing medical condition. In addition, this will also present whether must a collaborative intervention among the different professionals in the health care delivery system.
The nursing care plan does not simply end in presenting a report as part of the medical record of the patient. This needs to be discussed to the patient as well as the patient support system in order to be executed and implemented according to the specifications presented in writing . Thus, the AP nurse would require the necessary communication skills in order to deliver the correct message to the patient.
In addition, aside from learning how to make a nursing care plan, the class has also properly accorded the students with the knowledge and competency in therapeutic communication. As mentioned earlier, the nursing care plan should be translated and communicated to the patient to facilitate treatment and health education. . The APN student also learns how to properly make the appropriate nursing diagnosis using the DSM-9 criteria . It establishes the distinction of DSM-9 and ICD classifications.
