Saint Leo is a Catholic University based on liberal Arts. Its students come from different faiths. The success in educating diverse students is attributed to its core values which are upheld both by the staff and the students. Its statement of values lists six basic core values. These are as follows; Integrity, Respect, Excellence, Personal Development, Community and Responsible Stewardship. The university choice of core values is unique and directly indicates its strong Christian foundation. Integrity is such a setting is inevitable and cannot go unmentioned. The University is categorically founded on Catholic faith although it teaches students of all other faiths. To avoid discrimination of non-like faith students, the university has to cultivate the spirit of integrity. Integrity advocates for self discipline and equal treatment of diverse students and members of staff. In its description of the meaning of integrity, the university emphasizes that student, staff and faculty has to pledge honesty, justice and consistency in what they say and do. Such a pledge calls for responsibility of members and is an assurance of success of the institution.
Respect as a core value is another great pillar of discipline in the university. Respect amongst the stakeholders fosters unity and accommodates diversity of people which allows exchange of ideas and harmonious coexistence at work and in class. This brings about scholarly success which opens up the world to innovation. Respect also enables individuals to recognize and appreciate each other’s talents which show respect to ones dignity. As a Christian university, inclusion of Respect as a key value shows its readiness to foster education excellence and bring a positive and impactful change in the world. With respect, the institution will be in a position to execute its growth strategy and encourage mutual relationship amongst the students. Consequently, the institution’s activities will run smoothly and objectively.
