Strongest Values
Where we get these values
The two strongest values that I have held on to is keeping my word in promises and honoring my parents. In comparison to today’s society, these values seem to be going down the drain every single day (Jordan, 2008). Many young adults have lost touch with their cultural values such as this but I continue to adhere to mine. This is because I grew up in an outstanding environment whereby my parents made sure that we understood the importance of respect and honor (McDonald, Coover, Sandler, Thao, & Shalhoub, 2012). They kept reminding my siblings and I that we did not have to be taken in by the hype and do not care attitude of the new generation.
Importance of the values
The values are the very core to my everyday life. They are my stronghold of my livelihood. They keep me focused on my life goals and help me inspire other members of my community who were not so privileged to have such quality upbringing (Mostovicz, & Kakabadse, 2012). Respecting my parents has been priceless due to their invaluable advice that always holds up. This comes hand in hand with keeping my word. This has made me a reliable person of the society and people have a lot of trust in me.
Values that I reject
The values that I strongly reject are looking out for myself and respecting the environment. It has come to my concern that the later should be adjusted but that will be a long journey. This is due to the hype that has been happening about environmental conservation but this is due to the upbringing that I had as a kid (Lambeth, 2012). The environment was not an issue since it was considered natural and normal and was not a priority. Looking out for me is what I consider selfish and simple minded. This is because such activities happen at an expense of others that I have to step on.
