Dangerous minds is among the most appropriate films that depict the significance of teaching. The main character, Johnson Louanne applies her own teaching background to advance the continuity of the move. Louanne is depicted as an influential hero in the film and this can be attributed to her contributions in helping students to overcome challenges relating to their underprivileged surroundings. The plot of the film is organized in such a manner that it matches every of a teacher dedicated to transforming the lives of teenagers.
Dangerous Minds is an ideal movie because it provided inspirations to many kids by encouraging them to stay at school in addition to encouraging such kids to pursue their dreams. The film also teaches important tenets such as the benefits of respecting each other. For instance, in the film the teacher respects her students and the students offer respect in return.
The film builds upon the realities of surrounding the subcultures of ghetto neighborhoods where gang violence is prevalent. In such neighborhoods, chances of surviving are minimal because individuals caught in between gang life end up being murdered in the process. This movie was appropriate for the given context because majority of Louanne’s students came from poor minority communities. Majority of such students have little or no interest in education and seldom show any interest in learning educational skills or learning strategies to enable them overcome social problems that face them on day-to-day basis. Equally, these students are often fixated dealing about their social challenges to an extent that they lack the confidence to face life it comes. Sadly, most of these students have acquired the belief that maybe their destiny was defined with their situation.
The film also depicts violence as a strategy used by people individuals to overcome different challenges in their lives. For this reason, the affected persons resort to using violence to gain power within their respective societies. This can be seen in the film where Louanne is received with a cold shoulder. The students are so arrogant to an extent that they label her names such as ‘puta’ or ‘white bread’ that in the common man’s language means a prostitute or slut. However, Louanne is more determined to change the attitudes of the students through teaching fundamental lessons in life.
Despite having a positive attitude to change the attitudes of the students, Louanne is faced with the challenge of dealing with strict bureaucracies within the school administration. Such bureaucracies made it so difficult for Louanne to implement new policies or rules that can help in transforming the behavior or attitudes of her students. On another perspective, the reluctance of the school administration to deal with the bureaucratic challenges shows that the school administration had little or no interest in enabling the students to have transformed attitudes.
The film also shows the importance of engaging in extracurricular activities such as Karate. It exposes students to lives that they have never experienced before in their lives such as being categorized as A students. The importance of making certain choices in life is also shown in the film. Students argue that the difficulties surrounding their lives has more to do with the neighborhood that they come from. However, Louanne demonstrates to them that the neighborhood has nothing to do with their experiences but rather the choices that they make in their lives.
