The Big Five test is a model that allows people explore the most important aspects of any individual`s personality. In the basis of this test there is an idea that any personality is characterized by the individual differences in adaptation to the social environment, taking into account the biological properties of the individual, of course. According to the Big Five test`s model, there are five common and relatively independent features in the human personality. These are extraversion, emotional stability, agreeableness, conscientiousness and openness to new experience (intellect with imagination). This essay is a reflection paper, which was written after the passage of the Big Five test.
In fact, people tend to believe their own fictional image of themselves, which is not always objective. It's also true for me. This test gave me the opportunity to look at myself more objectively. My extraversion option gained 22%, which tells about my tendency to introversion. Therefore, the reaction of introverted person is often more reserved, formal and serious. However, this does not necessarily mean that the quiet reactions dominate in an introvert`s behavior. Emotional stability showed 70%, which means that in stressful situations I am not likely to upset easily. Moreover, it in unusual situations a high rate of emotional stability lets me stay relaxed. Agreeableness factor was 30%, and I like this result. It says that I can come to an agreement if necessary without betraying my own interests. This means that the friendliness and skeptical hard-headiness are almost in balance. The 36% of conscientiousness factor disappointed me, as it indicates a certain lack of self-organization. However, it is the truth about myself because I really prefer a flexible mode of operation. Intellect / imagination factor got 14%, and this means that I am rather closed to the new experience. Therefore, it characterizes me as a practical person with a fairly conservative views.
And after the Big Five test is passed, there is an urgent question, whether the test can really objectively measure personality. The answer is yes and there is an explanation. Each person is unique and always balanced. However, this balance might sometimes lead to disharmony and give painful results or undesirable effects. And in such cases, the person needs an assistance in order to return to a state of harmony again. To do this, it is necessary to assess this person`s key factors, which are not interdependent. And the Big Five test makes it possible to do that. Moreover, this test allows to somehow predict the behavior of an individual to build certain expectations (Gosling, Rentfrow, & Swann, 2003). No one will argue that any personality is a rather complicated combination of qualities, attitudes, ideas, and beliefs. That is why such tests as the Big Five test lets measure psychometric properties of a personality when the time is limited.
In the end, it is necessary to say that this assignment was especially valuable to me because it gives an opportunity to look deeper inside myself and increase the level of consciousness and self-awareness. Although I have already been aware of my tendency to introversion and high emotional stability, I had no idea that my conscientiousness, intellect and imagination factors are so low that it makes me a poorly organized person man with conservative views. After analyzing the results of the Big Five test I will work more on myself in order to become a more harmonious personality. This test will be useful for any person, who needs to get an objective characteristics of the personality.
