1. In cases where the basic crop producing the relevant agricultural waste is no longer produced, the bioenergy cannot be produced. Biomass energy is much less efficient compared to its fossil fuels counterparts with only a 50% output capacity. In areas such as harvesting method, additional work time is needed. Some bioenergy conversions projects are from animal wastes and are relatively small therefore are limited and cannot be used in large scale. Production of Growth of biofuels has the potential to use land which could otherwise be used for growing food crops, leading to increased food prices as crop yields are directed to fuel production.
2. Increasing temperatures are causing the polar ice sheets and glaciers to melt which causes the ocean levels to rise, threatening the low lying land areas and islands. Melting polar ice sheets is also putting the polar wildlife in danger as they can only be adapted to the cold climates. Increased temperatures are causing alteration in the normal climate pattern and bringing about prolonged dry periods, which cause unpredicted droughts and wild fires especially in developing countries.
3. Nuclear energy emits radioactive waste which needs to be disposed in a safe place, because they are extremely hazardous and can leak radiations if not stored properly. These radiations have a very long term effect if not carefully handled. It costs a lot to put up a nuclear power station. Effects of exposed nuclear products have a major impact on human lives as seen at Hiroshima and Nagasaki during the Second World War.
4. Most eco-friendly organizations are improvising the clean energy technologies that have already proven functional. What is remaining is development of a more effective method to apply these technologies on a large scale basis. More people are increasing the share of renewables in their energy consumption that nurture growing renewable energy sources
5. The Ecofys energy scenario argues that a fully sustainable global energy system is possible by 2050. They did a thorough research on the world's economic systems and the global energy consumption systems before postulating this theory. First the scenario forecasts the level of energy-consuming activities in the future and secondly, it ranks the sources to provide the energy for these activities based on sustainability and efficiency.
6.
7. Coming up with fuel efficient vehicles can help save a lot of energy while still performing regular activities. Switch off energy sources when not using them. Use energy saving cookers that consume less fuel.
8. It is an efficient electrical grid modernized to collect data and statistics on customer behavior which is later analyzed to provide overview information about electricity distribution.
9. i). Ban emission of industrial waste products in rivers and seas to help conserve aquatic life.
ii). Plant more trees on land to help prevent soil erosion.
iii). Fish only the mature fishes especially in commercial fishing to avoid exploitation.
iv). Reduce the rate of using fossil fuels to control carbon dioxide emission into the atmosphere which damages the o-zone layer causing climate changes.
v). Increase afforestation to enhance the process of CO2 absorption from the atmosphere.
10. Some of the economic arguments are; does renewable energy cost more, does sustainable energy policy lead to more job opportunities, what if the set targets could be me through demand reduction.
11. To make the Ecofys scenario a success, it is imperative to stop relying on fossil fuels to meet energy demand. We should also shift to more efficient forms of transport like electrical energy rather than solid and liquid fuels. Introducing minimum efficiency standards worldwide for all products that consume energy, including buildings. Developing nations should be assisted in developing alternative energy sources and stop relying on environmentally-unfriendly, inefficient biomass burning, but instead use improved biomass cooking stoves, solar cookers and small-scale biogas digesters. Communities, businesses and individuals should be enlightened on the way they consume energy and the need to use efficient alternatives.
