Ethical issues in procurement
Perception of the Impropriety
The intention of the appearance in ethical or any compromising conduct, actions, and communication in business should be prevented. The professionals in supply chain management should deal with both internal and external customers and suppliers. Therefore, such interactions must be honest and fair minded (Crmlearning.com). Consequently, certain actions that appear to diminish ethical conduct have to be avoided.
Conflicting Interests
Any personal or other activities should not conflict with the lawful interests of the employers. Therefore, in ethical procurement, the professionals in supply management should not apply their positions to induce other people to offer inappropriate benefits to others. In the event of any conflict, the supply management team must avoid the appearance of such conflicts.
Influencing issues
The behaviors or actions that may influence the decisions of supply management should be avoided. For instance, even if the person is in a position to influence the decisions of the supply chain, he or she must avoid any act that may appear to reduce the objectivity of decision-making process. However, the interest of the employer must be observed as part of the supplying process.
Holding the responsibility to the employer
The fiduciary and other responsibilities should be upheld with reasonable care and given to the relevant authority to deliver the value of products to the employer. Therefore, the supply management team should serve the interest of the employer to the exclusion of individual gains. However, this needs a sound judgment on both legal and implication of procurement ethics.
Prevailing event that relates to the above issues
There is always a question of who is fair among the parties that are involved in the supply chain. Therefore, there is always some tensions that do arise concerning the issue of fair play between various parties. Concerning the producers, there are several ethical issues that they face during the process of the supply chain. These include the rate of labor, working conditions, utilization of natural resources and other factors that can make a company deviate from its fair business activities. Since suppliers are part of the production process of the company, they will procure high quality raw materials to maintain high standard inventories with a sound distribution network. However, some suppliers do maintain low standard inventories and quality of procured raw materials will be cheaper.
