The social life of human world has different shapes. Some people appearances look ordinary and familiar, when the others are considered to differ from the norm. This essay will demonstrate the psychology of the crowd, based on the article about fashion. Even though fashion is not directly related to the psychology, however, it is social process, controlled by psychological aspects.
The article shows that the fashion is really massive phenomenon. Thanks to it the ad hoc fashion community was created. According to the article, “Everyone is now style literate. Even men — though some still pretend otherwise — know about dress codes, trends and sartorial rules” (Langmead). Consequently, it is fair to claim that being fashionable means being a part of the society.
People and the individual are not actually experiencing the direct psychological pressure however, following the habits, behavior or the appearance is considered to be as a psychology of the crowd. Crowd behavior has always been a buzzword for Le Bon, Tart, Mead and Blumer. Every crowd has a particular structure, which consists of the core, periphery and a potential core. For instance, there is a well-known actor or actress, who would like to stay popular all the time. In psychology theory of the crowd they would be named as a core. The original core of the crowd might get influenced by rationalistic considerations and to set well-defined goals. In their case, the fame is shown as a target. And the fashion is the perfect way to achieve this goal. At the same time, fans are starting to follow their unusual habits in dressing the cloth. Those fans may be called at the periphery. Lastly, it is known, that the fashion is never stable, therefore, another actor or actress can become a new core.
However, usually people are influenced by the fashion not through the magazines. In fact, the street and the every-day-areas are the sources of new fashions ideas. If one never gets out the house, one will never notice the fashion tendencies in the normal life. Members of the crowd are those actors, who joined this unity, as a result of the identification of their value orientations with the direction of action of the crowd. It must be emphasized, that crowd is a controller of modernity, especially in the era of open information.
