Genetic technology
Question 1
Genetic engineering is the uninterrupted manipulation of the genome of an organism using biotechnology skills (Dahiya et al., 2006). Genetic technology or rather genetic engineering involves isolating, copying and transferring genetic material from one organism to another; the practice involves the use of biological systems (CBD, 1992). The techniques used in genetic technology that include isolation of the gene of interest, cloning the identified gene in a suitable host and finally using gene promoters to improve protein expression (Houdebine, 2009). The genetic Technology article elaborates the importance of Genetic Technology in biology as will be discussed in this paper.
Question 2
Genetic Technology has a strong background from biology; use of a biological system in manipulation genes and using the resultant product to problems involve basic principles of biology (Dahiya et al., 2006). Application of cell engineering in making vaccines, antibodies, and pharmaceutical needs deep understanding of biology of both human body and host bio-system (Dahiya et al., 2006). Through study of biology, scientists have been able to use gene technology to replace defective genes with better visions to cure genetic disorders (CBD, 1992). However, the new technique is still in initial stages, and much of the tried treatments are just attempts (CBD, 1992).Study of genetics and molecular biology in biology helps one to understand the concepts of genetic technology.
Question 3
Genetic technology is an interesting field in biology of an organism; one can learn how products are acquired from pure raw material through use of living organism (CBD, 1992). In today's world, various industries depend on gene engineering so as to produce food, biomedical, pharmaceuticals and beverages (CBD, 1992). Both current gene technology and old genetic technology are used. The significance of genetic technology in daily human life makes it a fascinating filed of biology (CBD, 1992). The knowledge from the study can affect one directly through working in biotechnology companies or indirectly through consumption of bioengineered products (Dahiya et al., 2006).
Question 4
Genetic Technology is an important field of biology that has aided human survival for a long time (Dahiya et al., 2006). Recent advancement in the field has resulted to several medical breakthrough human have benefited from like use of PCR in making insulin (CBD, 2009). Still the field has a promising future hence the funding of research based on genetic technology should not be debatable but compulsory for a better future (CBD, 2009).
