Reflection Activity 2
Think about the concepts of pedagogy and andragogy, then make a list of learning experiences in your life that you have fallen into each of these two categories. Try to list at least five for each box. This exercise allows you to relate each concept with experiences you are already familiar with. Each connection you make will make it easier for you to remember what these concepts mean.
Pedagogy: (For Example: High school class, U.S. History)
- Case based learning system. Studying a specific case and relating it to the contemporary issues.
- Inquiry based learning. For instance asking questions to understand better.
- Project based learning process. Carrying out a research to test some hypothesis.
Andragogy: (For Example: Learning new software on YouTube)
- Using a computer to learn practical computer applications.
- Simulating a pulley system to explain how the gears work in practice.
- learning how to operate a machine through observation.
Group 2: Reflection 4
In the first box, make a list of the major transitional stages or life-tasks in which you were most open to learning new information. In the second box, describe what you were most open to learn about.
Transition/life-task:
- As a child
- During the puberty stage.
- As a Teenager.
What did you want to learn?
As a child, learning process was filled with a lot of curiosity. This made the learning process more interesting since everything that I learnt was out of trial and tests. Moreover, during the childhood stage, there were so many experiments that I was fond of. During this stage mostly I was interested in how an electric bulb lights what the mechanisms of its lighting system were and what made them light. As a teenager, there was a slight difference. I was more interested in computers and the mechanisms in which they functioned. I wanted to learn so much more about computers and both the software and hardware parts.
Group 2: Reflection 2
2a: Can you recall a situation that you have faced as an adult, where you resisted a learning opportunity due to feeling that your decision-making ability was taken away? Yes or No.
- Yes
2b: Since awareness is the key to avoiding problems, jot down some of the issues related to self-concept you might face as you work to complete your degree. Then, take a minute to brainstorm a couple of strategies to keep these issues from becoming obstacles.
Issues:
- Time management
- Accommodation near the school.
- Scarce University resources such as books.
- Inadequate upkeep finances.
Strategies:
- Maintaining a viable schedule to manage time effectively. For instance drawing a timetable including my basic daily activities.
- Looking for a better accommodation premises in the nearby areas so as to minimize time wastage in between the school and the place of residence.
- Making good use of the available resources and books for research purposes.
- Finally, to make do with the available finances, I would schedule my expenditure to fit in between my financial capabilities to avoid starving and uncomfortable situations.
Group 2: Reflection 3
3a: Take a moment to describe a situation where considering your past experience has helped you to
Understand new information
I have had a previous experience with riding a bicycle. When I became of age to start riding a motorcycle, the experience was not strange since it was a similar method though the motorcycle was more of powered by an engine, which is unlike a bicycle. Therefore my past experience with riding a bicycle favored me to learn how to ride a motorbike faster and with no hitches.
3b: List a couple of experiences from your life that you use to filter new information.
- Riding a bicycle
- Playing Basketball.
- Operating a motor system and operating a generator.
Group 3: Reflection 2
Based on what you read on page 180 of the textbook, what parallels do you see in Jesus' growth and your own as a learner? –
- By the age of 12 he had learnt a lot of things and could sit in the table with other religious officials.
- He started teaching in the temple at a tender age.
- He understood various biblical teachings while in his childhood.
- He observed various religious occasions and what they meant. He knew every traditional ritual and observed every occasion as a young boy.
