In my personal and professional lives, I pride myself on a number of principles – being driven and motivated in all things, fostering communication between colleagues, responding with empathy and compassion to everyone I need and can serve, and many more. As many of these principles go hand-in-hand with the tenets of Providence Hospital’s mission statement and philosophy of practice, I am certain that the Hospital Student Nurse Apprenticeship would be a transformative experience for my development as a nurse practitioner.
My experience and expertise to date have allowed me to build a solid foundation in the nursing profession – one which I believe this apprenticeship can enhance to further improve my skills. While I began my education by achieving a BA in Psychology from the University of South Florida, I understood that I could make a greater impact in people’s lives by becoming a Nurse Practitioner. Since that time, I have done everything I can to further my education in that direction, getting involved with the Student Nurses’ Association, volunteering for community organizations such as the Palmetto Health Foundation, and more. I have developed a sincere and ardent passion for nursing, finding an incredible thrill in helping people and making a difference in their lives; consequently, I feel I must gain as complete and effective an education as I can, which has motivated me to seek out hands-on programs like this apprenticeship.
As an apprentice, I respond extremely well to leader-mentor relationships, learning best when someone leads by example; to that end, this apprenticeship will allow me to shadow practitioners at the top of their field, picking up the skills and experience I will need to help others in my own future practice. I also hope to gain more experience in interpersonal skills in this apprenticeship; teamwork is an essential component of operating within a larger medical care organization, and so I place a high priority on this aspect of nursing. It is also my desire to build a strong work ethic, and develop better communication skills (which are imperative to delivering excellent patient care) as a nurse, listening carefully and responding appropriately to any given situation.
If given the chance to participate in this apprenticeship, I hope to take full advantage of it and glean every bit of knowledge and experience as I can. In the end, I want to work as hard as I can to fulfill my potential, and earn a position at the top of my field. I sincerely believe I have the skills and tools necessary to accomplish this goal, particularly if they are developed through such a challenging, high-quality program as this apprenticeship. I have fully committed to my quest to go as far as I can in the field of nursing, putting forth all of my energy and effort to making a difference in the lives of patients – this apprenticeship is the next logical step in my journey.
