The government of Canada policies such as family sponsorship, economic advantages, political alienation, educational opportunities, and a belief that there was a guaranteed freedom of faith and expression in Canada attracted the Muslim society to the country. Muslims are represented as educated and having professional skills. The objective of the film is to understand the Canadian Muslim cultural attitudes to the democratic values that matter to the native citizens of Canada. The focus is to test certain perspectives about how Muslim values and attitudes relate to the western culture. These perspectives include; systematic alienation from the United States based on conflicts between non-Muslim and Muslim populations and dealing with issues such as foreign policy, terrorism and sharia law.
The kind of prejudices the show attempts to expose
The film exposes prejudices such as lack of support and criticism of the Muslim community which is intimidating. The story line portrays a political prejudice where a character in the movie is unable to fly to the United States. The Muslim community has been associated with terrorism, which brings a concern to the Canadian government on its immigration policies. The film also shows the mosque being attacked by the Canadian security intelligence service to portray humour rather than politics. There is confusion about what place the Islamic community has in the western nations. The movie began to get low rating because the audience interpreted it as political rather than trying to portray a sense of humour since the main character was unable to fly in the first place because of being placed in the wrong flight, rather than being discriminated because of being a Muslim.
Dealing with cultural differences in Canadian society
Citizens’ acceptance that they live in a multi-cultural society will help them accept other communities as equal without any form of racial or cultural discrimination. The Canadian culture, influenced by the European tradition, explains the political, artistic, musical, culinary and social elements which represent the Canadians and other communities from all over the world. The Canadian government puts a great emphasis on the country’s cultural diversity in an effort to recognize its communities and promote peaceful co-existence.
