BBC is such an excellent source of interesting aviation documentaries. After posting videos about British Airways Boeing 747 refitting the video of what goes into play when constructing a jumbo jet engine. A Jumbo Jet Engine is a story of the thousands of workers who design, build and test the gigantic engines at the Royce Rolls manufacturing plant in the U.K. on the video you will be able to see not only the process of making the magnificent engine at Rolls- Royce Derby factory but also understand the complexities and sophistication of a jet engine and why there very few companies in the entire world that are able to construct the engine.
The second step is the actual manufacturing of the engine. The design concepts are taken to the mechanical engineers who have to implement all the requirements included in the design stage to fully mechanical and functional parts. The team of electrical, mechanical, and many other engineers work together to implement the design framework into a complete and functional Jumbo jet engine. The process is quite rigorous and thorough which involves building and testing. A concept that you notice is quite common the development of the engine is the many tests equipment undergoes which in the end is aimed at producing a quality product that is above board in all aspects from fuel conservation to safety and all the required standards (Thuber, 2016).
After all the process the engine must be certified. There is various type certificate for various engines and any work in involving aeronautical engineering. Certification takes time and for a part to be certified it could take about three years. The process takes that long time to be certified because all parts have to be tested against the international standards and passed with excellent grade so as to be approved. When the designs have been accepted certified and the engine too have been manufactured and accepted as truly above board in all aspects of aeronautical safety and international standards, the engine can be delivered to the customer. The customers of the engine include the big plane manufacturing companies (Hünecke, 2011).
It was worth noting that only a handful companies can actually build a jet engine and Royce and Rolls is one with the most trusted work ethic. Truly the process of building a turbofan engine is both magnificent and involving. The number of people involved to say just the least is overwhelming. But what it takes to develop an engine is utter hard work and amazing creativity.
