If such a thing as travel was non-existent, would Christopher Columbus have discovered America? It is just impossible to imagine how life would be without the possibility of travel. There would not be such a thing as international cuisine since every people would be locked up with their own way of life. Some terminologies such as diversity, globalization, cultural integration and global village would not feature. Simply put, there are a lot of developments which come along with travel. It can be a life-changing experience. This is as explained in the paragraphs below.
Bernier (2012) indicates that the first major benefit of travel is that it helps an individual to “disconnect from regular life.” More often than not, people get worn out repeating the same things over and over. Even in the work place, individuals tend to reach the burn out point. Such are the times when people talk of taking vacations and having some time by themselves. As such, it is arguable that travel acts as a break for relaxation from the draining life’s routines.
Another good thing about travel is that it helps in the socialization process. The more an individual travels, the more an individual travels, the more people he is likely to meet (Marcinowski, 2012). As such, it can be a moment of fun. However, this socialization can be exploited to a different level. For instance, if an individual takes business strips or vacations, it is an opportunity to form new networks and alliances. As a matter of fact, there are main business deals and break-through which are realized as a result of travelling.
The travel experience is also a time to learn. According to Proust (2012), the travelling experience can open up an individual’s scope of reasoning, understanding and synthesizing information. As such, it acts as a learning opportunity. For instance, travelling to a different country can give an individual the chance to interact on a live basis with the cultures and behaviors of the people in the given country. This can be realized through visits to the museums and other heritage centers in the country being visited.
Travels also give an opportunity to the traveler to be more independent. For instance, there are some things that an individual has to do for the self during the travels. For instance, an individual can learn new cooking techniques and styles, especially if the food to be taken during the travel is not similar to the food taken at home. Well, the above evidence is enough proof that travelling can be a life-changing experience. Costly it might be, but the benefits definitely outdo the costs.
Based on the above explanation, I have the full understanding that travel can be such a nice experience for me. It is for this reason that I look forward to the oncoming 10 day trip to France and London. However, I must admit that it is quite burdening on me, given the fact that the recent Hurricane Sandy flooded my house and literally swept away all my household possessions. Nevertheless, I still feel that though this can be financially crippling, I cannot afford to miss the opportunity. As such I would be honored to be considered for the chance; not only would it give me a chance to learn, it will also be an avenue to fulfilling my life’s dreams.
