Just as Keats opens his poem ‘To Autumn’ by describing the abundance and intimacy with the sun, this summer autumn will be a season of mellow fruitfulness for me. When the word ‘Mellow Fruitfulness’ rings in my ears, I feel like it is something that people would say during a wine tasting I love the cool, yet not cold weather of this season of autumn. According to Edgar, ‘autumn winds blow colder than summer’ (Edgar, 1), and I believe I will enjoy it this time. Just as the fruitful harvests of the crops during this autumn, I have always loved the season, and it has always been full of surprises and good things for me.
Life at school is never easy. Having to beat the deadlines, working on class assignments and home works have been challenging. The most stressing part of the curriculum is when one fails to meet the minimum requirements during an examination. However, I thank my friends who were supportive when life at school became unbearable, I will miss them so much. This calls for a break at some time from the academic involvements. Nevertheless, this autumn is a special one for me since I will be completing my AA degree and returning home to relax with my family, and not having the stress of returning to school in another semester. I cannot wait to feel the joy of reuniting with children, who will also break from school at the same time. I have learnt that one of my children can now drive a car by himself. I would be glad when my son drives me to the shopping mall.
I have been experiencing very cold and stressing weather during the winter. However, I am now happy that the cold weather is gone, and a new and fruitful season is here. I managed to travel to Yellowstone Park where I took many photos. I am sure my children would be glad to see the photos as we share cups of coffee in the cool weather, and enjoy the breeze that we could only experience in special seasons like this. Additionally, since I will be having enough time to enjoy myself as I will be finishing my AA degree, this is the best opportunity to visit my sister in Europe. I miss her so much. It has been long since I last saw her. We communicate a lot, but I just want to spend time with her and share the stories of our life.
Keats begins his poem by relating this autumn season with the sun. He says "Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun” (Keats, 1-2). The same relationship I will get from reuniting with my family that I have missed while I was at school. My children will give me the joy that I have always missed while at school. However, I will miss my dear friends from school. I hope to see them again because they encouraged and helped me in school when I needed them the most. In deed “Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower” (Camus, 1), I wish all autumns were the same and there was no winter.
