"The greatest-ever commander" as he is known in North Korea, Kim Jong-un is both a political and military leader. He is also referred to as “a great person born of heaven, great successor and an outstanding leader". Kim Jong-un is the son of Kim Jong-ill who was North Korea’s military leader and Ko Yong-hee, an opera singer. Kim Jong-un succeeded his father after his death as the Korean leader. He is estimated to be about 29 or 30 years as no one is sure of his exact date and year of birth. He loves basketball and dancing. Despite sanctions, and the disapproval of the testing of nuclear weapons by the international community, Kim Jong-un has continued the programs and tested a number of the nuclear weapons. He is determined to continue the nuclear programs in Korea despite all the sanctions from the United States. In this paper, I am going to talk about Kim jong-un’s leadership and how he continuously issues threats to the U.S. despite their plea for peace talks.
My opinion on Kim Jong-un is that he is a young determined and stubborn leader that cannot be stopped if he has purposed to do something. This is because, under his leadership, he has purposed to continue the nuclear weapon testing programs despite it being stopped by the international community. The North Korean country had agreed to halt the nuclear testing programs but he ordered its continuation and issued threats to the United States when they try to stop him. He is a leader who is stubborn an issues threats openly. His war ambitions are threatening the whole world yet he is still determined to continue the nuclear weapon warfare. Even though he gives reasons that he is continuing the programs so as to break the economic sanctions that have been imposed on North Korea, the programs are a great harm to the whole world.
Kim Jong-un rules North Korea by dictatorship. He does things his own way without thinking twice of the consequences. There has been a report of him being involved in human rights violation. Kim Jong-un kills people who defects from his rule and he does that by conducting public executions. Furthermore, he has been sending people in political camps where they are tortured and this acts are a violation of the human rights. He odes everything he can to strengthen his military credentials even if it means through the violation of human rights.
Kim Jong-un is a secretive and mysterious leader. In the past weeks, he has been issuing nuclear war threats to the Unite States yet he is not seen in the public. He is known as the "strange hermit King" since he issues threats yet he is out of the public’s view. His absence from the public leaves people wondering whether he is serious with the threats or it is just an intimidation strategy to the U.S. He is mysterious because no one understands him and they do not even know his next move as he passes around information yet he is out of the picture, no one knows where he is and when he is planning to attack.
Kim Jong-un cannot be viewed as a good leader because what he is doing is going to bring negative impacts on the whole world. The manufacturing of nuclear weapons will increase terrorism around the globe which will lead to the death of many people. Furthermore, it leads to global warming which the whole world is trying to prevent. Furthermore, he is putting his citizens, South Korea’s, and the U.S. citizens at risk by issuing war threats. If war erupts between the three countries, all the citizens will suffer the consequences. As much as he is viewed as "The greatest-ever commander", he is not a good leader. Good leaders care about the consequences of their actions.
In conclusion, Kim Jong-un is a North Korean military and political leader who is behind the continuing of the nuclear weapons programs and testing. He succeeded his father after his death and he is adored by the Korean people. He is a determined person who even goes against the international community’s disapproval of testing of nuclear weapons. He is determined to get his country from the financial sanctions imposed to them by the U.S. even if it means by fighting them and putting the lives of people at stake.
