One of the major tools used in organizational management by leaders, managers and employees alike has been the effective use of the ‘teamwork aspect’. Although, not an easy tool to implement, teamwork and cooperation are key aspects within an organization. By simple definition, teamwork is the process of collaboratively working together as a group of people in order to achieve one specific goal. It means people in a team will always try to work together using their individual skills for the success of the team, despite the existence of any personal differences. Despite being a positive aspect of any organization, teamwork does not always work result in successful completion of a project or work.
The lack of teamwork can be a negative aspect in any business or organization owing to a number of reasons. One of the reasons for the lack of successful teamwork is the formation of teams forcefully, in order to achieve goals, rather than being formed to do that. However, there are other numerous factors that may lead to lack of teamwork among employees. Lack of teamwork can be detrimental in some operations such as managing air flights. It's essential that there is an effective and efficient contribution from different people for any flight from destination A to B, to be successful.
For example, in order to make a successful flight, there needs to be cooperation between the pilots, flight attendants, mission planner, emergency response, and the flight crew among many others. In failure for any of the team members to execute his/her duties effectively, there can be a negative impact to the entire job. The paper looks at the importance of teamwork in aircraft flying.
In recent times, working in teams has become a common aspect in the management of many business entities. However, as seen from the case given, it is a challenge for different personalities to work successfully together. However, compared to other approaches to organization management, teamwork is more beneficial to the organization as well as to the team members only when successfully implemented. One of the key advantages of a successful team is increased efficiency. When a group works on a project, it can be done quickly and efficiently. The management of the recent time crew resources focuses on the management of available resources which are meant to reduce errors. It includes all aviation specialists working together as a team e.g. air traffic controllers, pilots, cabin crew members, mechanics and dispatchers. This is achieved through setting of specific goals, teamwork, and attentiveness as well as giving and receiving of feedback. Crew-resource-management looks permit several people in their different roles to control or contribute to a variety of core fundamentals in achieving of an outcome, which in this case are safer flights. Consequently, crew resource management in practice can be thought of a micro-model for safety management existing as part of a larger organizational model.
Conclusions
Teamwork can be a tool for successful performance of an organization, however, for any team to be successful, there needs to effective connection between the team players and their jobs within an organization. Not only being used in the military, air transport remains one of the safest mode of moving people and goods around the globe. However, a good number of accidents in air transport are believed to be caused by human error. It’s clear that with an effective teamwork within the air transport sector, there can be minimized human error contribution to the accidents, and in turn highlighting the importance of teamwork in any organization.
