Charisma is an important aspect of managers. This character is important in motivating the employees. Charismatic leaders feel that they are likely to achieve their goals regardless of the situations they are facing. The confidence that they always have in their activities acts as a motivation to other employees who struggle to follow their actions (Belasen, 54). The charismatic feature of a managers helps to remove the fears that the employees may have regarding the achievement of the organizational goals.
Many charismatic leaders have people who ever inspired them in their lives. They therefore give stories to their employees showing how such people struggled without losing hope so as to achieve what they wanted to. One of the examples that managers give is napoleon who was a army leader. Napoleon is one of the leaders who were respected all over the world due to the way he struggled until he became an emperor. Even though he was not fluent in French, he was not afraid of anything even in the battle field since he knew that he would succeed. This is a common story that managers give to encourage the employees not to lose hope in their struggle towards achieving the organizational goals (Quinn, 82).
Another charismatic leader is president Obama. The managers give this example to show how he struggled not fearing racism until he obtained the powerful position. These stories act as motivators when told since they prove to the employees that they are also able.
Charismatic leaders are people who have admirable features and are always ready to face other employees and help them to solve any issue that such employees may be facing. Generally, they try to show that everything is possible. The admirable characteristics of these leaders are adopted by the employees and this may facilitate the achievement of organizational goals (Quinn, 135). When people are led by people who lack confidence and are not sure whether they are doing the right thing or not, they are demoralized and their performance generally reduces. Charismatic leaders inspire people not only through their words but through their actions and performance in the organization.
There are downsides of a charismatic leader. A charismatic leader may make people too much dependent on him/her. This can make it difficult for the people to work when such a leader is absent. In this case, the performance of the company may go down. The other pitfall is that a charismatic leader may become so famous in a company that some groups of people may start opposing the opinions of such a leader (Quinn, 156). These conflicts affect the company negatively in terms of performance. The other danger associated with such a leader is that he/she can greatly demoralize the other employees in case a situation arises that leads to reduced performance of the company. Failure of such a leader will greatly demoralize other people in the organization.
There are many other factors that a considered before selecting a leader. The advantage of charismatic leaders is that they are able to set up challenging goals of an organization and offer enough motivation to the employees so that they can facilitate the achievement of such goals. A good example of a charismatic leader is john F Kennedy whose leadership led to the exploration of the space for the first time. Charismatic leaders generally can lead to achievement of extra ordinary goals in an organization. Therefore it is important that this characteristic is considered in the employment of CEOs (Belasen, 103). However, this should not be the only factor that should be considered in the selection of such a leader. Even though there are drawbacks to the characteristic, the benefits are more than the disadvantages.
