In the first step of problem solving and decision making chart, the recognition of decision requirement was incorporated by means of observing the decreasing trend in sales, due to which it was decided that McDonalds need to change the way it is doing business. In the second step, which focussed on the diagnosis and analysis of causation, it was determined that McDonald’s short term strategy was objectified towards increasing the number restaurants rather than focusing on the quality of services. It was also observed that a large number of restaurants resulted in overlooking the deteriorated sales of one restaurant due to the increased sales of the other restaurant (DuBrin, 2011).
The third phase was focused on the development of the alternatives, in which the development of new growth strategies was emphasized by means of addressing the customer expectations. Moreover, it was also taken into the consideration that the customers wanted variety in the products offered by the McDonalds. The fourth step incorporated the selection of the desired alternatives, in which the management of McDonalds shifted its focus towards reducing the number of new restaurants, increasing the sales turnover of the existing restaurants, enhancing its menu offerings and encompassing the continuous performance evaluation mechanism to determine the effectiveness of the desired alternatives (DuBrin, 2011; Koontz, 2010).
The fifth step was focused on the implementation of the chosen alternative, in which the transformational leadership was incorporated to ensure the organizational change towards enhancing the sales of the company. The employees were provided with the well-defined goals and resources to achieve their targets. The sixth step was focused on the evaluation of the alternatives, in which tracking matrix is used so that managers can know that the new information can be delegated among the employees in an effective manner. The organization needed to change its focus from increasing its number of restaurants from increasing the service, quality and menu offerings of the existing ones. McDonalds achieved a positive trend in its sales and profitability and hence, the problem solving mechanism is considered to be successful (DuBrin, 2011).
