Arguably, we go through various experiences, of which we act according to our potential. Since childhood, many people have undergone an experience that is either good or bad. As a matter of fact, after the experience we learn various skills on how to deal with issues, as well as test our potentiality. As an individual, I have undergone many challenging experiences, but the most memorable of all happened as Iraq. The challenging experience was worth stepping in and shifting a situation. Certainly, my first firefight in Iraq as a United States marine marked my most challenging experience.
In this challenging situation, I stepped in to man a machinegun post. As a matter of fact, my challenging experience was threatening, but in most cases, extreme decisions lead to the right path. In my entire life, I had never been scared to that extend, but courage in me and the attachment I had for my job overcame my fears; I found myself doing a tremendous job. The firefight in Iraq was a live or death situation. The enemies had ambushed marine base without our knowledge. As an individual, I acted swiftly and operated the machine gun. The exchange of bullets took approximately one hour, of which the entire time I was manning the machinegun point. This position is challenging this is because most of the marines depend on the machine gun point in attacking the enemy. The position is one of the core points in the Iraq war.
The position as a United States marine corps in Iraq was professionally and technically challenging, as well as being amazing and successful overall occurrence. Actually, in this spot I was able to defend and safe lives of many of my combat colleagues. Perhaps, the suppression of fire that I offered was extremely favorable to defending the marines’ position. My previous skills and courage that I attained during the marines training came in use.
In the entire firefight, I learned that challenging experiences can be handled successfully by being calm. Additionally, my personal attributes as well as skills that one gain in life are important virtues in facing a challenging situation. Personally, I realized my good personal attribute that I had the potential to remain calm under stressful and challenging situations. Calmness in a challenging situation makes individuals deep think, gain self confidence, as well as gather possible alternatives. Moreover, I after the experience I learned that challenges are exist to make us strong and move forward. Regardless of the outcome, challenging experience make us grow individually and as a team. In the course of the challenge, I was close to keeping up but team work kept me going. In every challenging experience, perseverance is the best in achieving the ultimate goal.
In my opinion, the experience I went through was not in vain. The lessons I learned during the challenging situation in Iraq, have served me and my marine colleagues. I applied the lessons learned in Afghanistan, as well as combat in Liberia. Additionally, I have applied the skills in personal stressful situations. The skills learned soften the hardness of an issue and makes it simple to be solved. Furthermore, I have also utilized the skills in situations that are out of Marine Corps, such as car accidents. Generally, the skills I learned have served a purpose in my entire life.
Life is a series of many challenges that include emotional, mental, as well as physical strains. In such situations, the most difficult task is finding the highest level of confidence to trounce the challenges faced. The most challenging experience in my life did not paralyze me; it made me discover who I am, as well as an indicator of my strengths and weakness. The challenging experience I passed though in manning machinegun point served a purpose in my life.
