Of my top five strengths, three of those are in the Relationship-building domain while the other two are in the Influencing and Executing domains. This affirms my self-image as a people person wherein my strengths are in Including, Empathy, Adaptability and Wooing. My non-people strength is Restorative which relates to problem solving. I don’t have a strength in the Strategic Thinking domain which reveals that I am more a doer rather than a planner, a person of action rather than of ideas.
So if I will have a simplistic theme for myself, it would be that I enjoy working with people especially if I help them with their problems. These would be the jobs and careers that would have direct contact with people and their problems. I easily think of sales, customer service, hospitality and health care among others.
Having the Woo strength means I have some measure of charisma that I can use to connect with people that I have sought and then immediately bond with them. Sometimes it’s not enough that you lend your presence to people. You may be receptive to interaction but some people are just too shy by nature to reciprocate. To make the connection work, I can exert more effort by encouraging them to interact more. The goal is to create the important first momentum so that both sides can feel at ease and contribute to the engagement. The faster I stabilize relationships, the easier that I can tap into people when I need important transactions or exchange of favors. This is especially important when seeking the support of staff and colleagues, meeting new customers and partners. My ability to impress at first encounters is an asset in starting worthwhile relationships.
Empathy is something that I practice usually for close friends and its effectiveness has resulted in strong relationships with them. I foresee this replicating for me if ever I assume a management position. This strength will build for me a balanced relationship with my staff on a professional and personal basis. They will feel more open to me because empathy also elicits trust and the more information I have, the more I can solve their problems with accuracy and urgency. Empathy will also work for me when we seek to understand customers’ problems.
My adaptability allows me to be responsive to unexpected challenges that arise. This is especially fulfilling when there is a need to assist people directly with their problems. My ability to change plans without losing my composure or my positive mood can be an asset in a workplace where changes and urgencies are inevitable. It is not only that I can respond to expediencies but my positive demeanor will also be an influence to people around me. I want to be known for my reliability during crises where I can contribute without compromising my own work which I have set aside temporarily. People can look to me as a “firefighter” they can call on anytime.
My strength in being Restorative is a fitting complement to my adaptability. When problems arise, I not only respond abut also apply my innate problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to the challenges at hand. I have the persistence to stick to the job at hand until it is resolved. I want to be known as always being “part of the solution” rather than a “part of the problem”; one who will leave no stone unturned until the problem is solved. I like to inspire people around me to work hard and stay optimistic no matter how severe situations become.
