Responsible
As a husband and father of a ten year old and two year old I am a very responsible person. I have been married for twelve years and have successfully advanced in my career within law enforcement. I believe this is my greatest strength because I am able to maintain a good relationship with my family and my two wonderful kids. I want to show them that I care for them and I like the world to see me as a responsible public servant by having raised a good family. This has made me very effective as a law enforcer. I have to go home early, alive and inspired and make them feel that I am for them all the time. Without them, I will be very weak as a person and as a law enforcer.
Motivated
I’m a motivated person who has the drive most don’t have. Being motivated for me means being inspired. This inspiration comes from my family and makes me move faster. They will be with my success; failure will not be a part of endeavor, but when it comes it will only be a motivation to work further because failure becomes a part of success. Law enforcement work needs motivation to become effective. Motivation is needed in almost all aspects of human existence (Choi, 2006).
Experience
I have experience with various types of computer software such as Adobe, Photoshop, Microsoft Windows, etc. My technical knowledge and experience are also my strength as a student, law enforcer and worker. These are my tools to make me effective and it has been drawn out of hard work and diligence. I also need it in doing a highly technical job in this time of globalization and high technology. These skills are like guns for law enforcer; you cannot go out and enforce the law with your bare hands.
Talents
I have talents and abilities such as programming in a desired language, writing proposals, selling widgets, litigating cases, organizing events, translating from Polish to English. My abilities to program, write, sell widgets, litigate cases, and language skills are my strength for success. This is my fourth strength but it is as equally important as my other first strengths, and an additional tool for success. Someday, I may be able to venture in other fields of work and I need these very badly in my personal interactions with the new environment.
Soft skills
My competencies such as problem solving, influencing, team building, negotiation, managing up, make me a strong person. I call these soft skills but they are intangible talents of leadership and interpersonal relationships with people. I use this when I need strong assistance of equally talented people. As the cliché goes, ‘no man is an island’ and we need others to form a team to fight the negative forces of globalization and modernism. If we have this strength, no negative forces can hinder our paths.
Education/training
My training in various law-enforcement certifications, training seminars also make me strong. I was a field training officer within my law enforcement agency that trained all new hires. As a training officer, I am equipped with knowledge and skill that other law enforcers need. This makes me strong as a person and in fighting criminality. A law enforcer must not only be strong physically, he/she must be emotionally and psychologically stronger than the perceived enemies of the community. Without this strength, you cannot be a full combatant. A training officer not only teaches, he/she must possess these qualities.
Analytical
As a law-enforcer, I must be an analytical person. This means I have to critically analyze every situation to make me safe and effective in law enforcement. This is needed in my teaching job as a trainer and in my actual work as law enforcer. I have many experiences that I could say allowed me to be effective because of my being analytical. My interactions with strange people need my skill in analyzing because without this I would be in a dangerous situation.
Organizing and Planning Strengths
I am capable of creating a plan to achieve goals. This is a talent that has been drawn out of years of experience and continuous learning as a law enforcer and student not content of “little” knowledge. Being an effective organizer and planner, I become fully aware of the situation, of the problems that need immediate solutions, and the outcomes of my work. Organizing and planning are important part of police work. This can also be applied in our daily life, or in other fields of discipline such as business.
Able to handle pressure
Pressure is a great part of police work and even in other disciplines. There has never been a time when I am not pressured; yet, I manage to come out successful and still prepared for next job. Dealing with pressure is a co-equal talent with the other strengths I have mentioned earlier. I need it when I am in the field, in the office doing paper works, or in my student life as I tackle examinations. If we know how to deal with pressure, we become strong physically and mentally.
Multi-tasking
Law enforcers always do multi-tasking and they have to be effective in it. You have to be good in apprehending criminals, surveillance job, clerical job, ordinary messenger work, and sometimes manager and leader. It becomes strength if you do it effectively because that is what your job is all about. In my early years as law enforcer, I did all these effectively which became grounds for my promotion. I think all promoted generals have performed multi-tasking and they are good at it.
